2009 Players Club Annual Dinner-PRE sponsors please read

Oh yeah, another little birdy said Patto might come back into the side this week. He isn't injured at the moment, and was rested from the Brisbane game due to the weather and the need for different types of players.

I asked if he'd ever been uphappy with someones performance would he go up and tell them. He said the guys had a peer review system, and basically, if they think someone let the club down, then they go through and highlight what that player needed to change. So if he had to review a coburg game for example, he might have to say "dan (keeping with the connors theme), you lost the plot and got into the umpires too much and let if affect your game". It's part of the leadership development the club is putting half a dozen of our young players through (can't remember who all those players are sorry).

Good to hear, thats the sort of leading teams approach, although it doesn't appear to be working all that well.

Ridiculous, so they bring in Schulz who plays like a lemon. There was no reason for Patto not to play in the fwd line.

What a fantastic night, I was one of the lucky ones to get to represent pre, Rosy i'v got all your signatures, maybe email me your postal address and i'll mail it out for you.

As it has already been said we had Daniel Jackson and JON on out table, both great guys, spoke more to JON than Dan, Dan is a crack up, he has a photo on his phone of the blood streaming all down his face and said he had it as a wallpaper on his phone for a while! But every time he looked at it he felt sick so he took it off.

Asked JON a general querie about how the club sets down a nutrition guideline and he said every player has their own diet tailored for their individual needs, in his case his skin folds are already very good so the club are trying to put some muscle on him, so high carb high protein diet.

Craig Cameron and Gary March where the first guests of the night for the question and answere session.

Cameron was asked wether his approach to draft day is picking the best available player or the best player that suits the need of the club, he said no doubt would always pick the best available, no matter what position.

He was asked who gets the final say on which players get drafted, he answered whoever has the most info on the players, so if it's the national draft the recruiters that have been watching the kids since they were 15 get final say, for rookie selections or picking up existing afl players terry would have the final say.

This year they have employed two full time guys in recruiting to watch all kids from u15s thru to u18s.

Over the next few years the club will be capitalising on all available rookie selections, including the possibility of recruiting an irishman.

Gary March - Was asked about Sheedy's involvement, said he first approached sheedy not long after he retired from coaching for a role within the club but his year was pretty well already booked out with his involvement in the AFL's 150 celebrations.

Steven Wright stepped up to answere a question about the redevelopment works and the indeginous learning centre, construction due to begin in 6 weeks, punt road oval will eventually be the same size as telstra domes and not look like a "melted egg" as Cameron put it.

The next group to go up were some players, they were Cogs, Vickery, Nahas and Newman.

The host let everyone know that even tho cogs has the I.Q of a genius it took him three attempts to get his drivers Licence!
Cogs felt that the trip to Germany has a fork in the road for him, fortunately for us it took him in the right direction, said he had to go to Germany for the op because the stuff they injected is very hard to get a hold of apparently.

Chris Naish who is at Scotch College in some capacity has seen a lot of Vickery and has big wraps on him, Vickery accepts the fact that 6"7 guys don't set the world on fire early on so he is not sure when he will be ready for seniors.

Nahas was asked about Gary Eyres and he said he was a fantastic coach, very good for him, instrumental in his emergence as a forward pocket player.
I was reall impressed with Nahas, very well spoken and had a lot of time for anyone who wanted to say hello.

As a joke Jack Reiwoldt asked Newy to confirm that he is infact engaged which newy promptly denied and stated not funny jack, everyone had a good laugh about it, you can tell that JR is a big *smile* stirrer within the club!

Anyway it really was a top night, finally got to meet some fellow pre-enders.
Thanks again Rosy for the opportunity to go.

Interesting considering the size of some players, it tends to confirm a suspicion of mine that our lack of size on some players is deliberate. Some players like bling and Lids have certainly put on a lot of weight since they began.

All good news.

My experience of that mob is that they might be OK to do bit of fine tuning or tinkering with a really redhot organisation, but their work won't be so effective with a mediocre group. They can take up a lot of your workplace's time and money and not have much effect at all. In fact they can actually be a negative influence on your group if you are not careful.

It struck me as a little strange, but he said it wasn't hard to fit in, as they spend a lot of time pre-season with coburg so they get to know each other and the structures. They are intending to play the exact same gameplan as RFC.

Poor Coburg ;D

maybe RFC should change their gameplan to Coburg's, couldn't be worse than now

Jezza, did JON have much to say about himself...ie does he think he will make it...does he think he will be on the list next year...is someone giving him weekly advice about areas to improve and how, does he realise his shortcomings etc etc???

So i finally figured out my username and password so now i can contribute.

To the fellow PRE-enders who attended, im the other guy who was on table 19...also known as Mrs Richos brother.

Had a great time, always good to meet some die hard richmond fans.

Goss...cant add much more then whats been said (although i didnt read it too thoroughly)

Jacko and JON reckon David Gourdis is the fastest sprinter at richmond. Couldnt kick for *smile* when he first arrived but is improving in that department.

Lids benches the most..about 150kg they reckon. But only during pre-season coz they dont bench too much during the season (apparently).

The club encourages extra curricular activities (to take their mind off footy), Jacko is studying at uni, i think he mentioned something about a French subject ??? and JON does..................nothing. Although he did just buy a house, so kudos to him.

The players attitude was great, was lucky enough to go to the BnF last year and it was pretty hard to talk/interact with the players as there is sooooo many people trying to do the same thing, but this was much more relaxed and the players had more time to chat etc.

Also thanks to Jezza81 for getting the sigs...although i was man enough to ask for Jackos ;)

*smile* footy show is on...better rap it up there for now!

Was Richo there?? how is his mood if so ??

Yes and No. Richo did attend but was only there for a short period at the start of the night to fulfill photo obligations and then he had to leave before most had a chance to speak with him.

He also said Dan Connors could be the next big thing from coburg to RFC, if his body and attitude can remain healthy. Obviously they did a lot of preseason work, and he said Dan impressed him heaps with his attitude to training.

It's good to hear from a couple of different sources that those inside the club rate Connors ability as much as a few of us do here.

Just hope he makes it as an AFL footballer.

Great reports, General, Jezza & Brenny. Thanks for making the effort to share. :)

Finally got to a computer...but it seems pretty much everything is covered!
Ummmm....probably one of the main points as Jacko pointed out is that Benny C only has a no photo rule simply based on the fact that if he does it for one then he does it for all...and it becomes no-win with time/effort etc... ie be the top bloke and pose for a few hours and then those who missed out still complain...so he has a good point....but he does quite happily and readily sign anything. Ben also explained it to his team mates so they know the scoop.
Again, a very relaxed night with the players...no one seems to overtly pressure them at this event so it has a good feel.
Richo was there, but explained he cant really sit properly at the moment, thus not really an ideal event for him.
Jacko stated some facts and was quite open that they are higher because we turn the ball over thus we end up chasing on top of the attacking game.
Pretty much the theme from everyone one is that it aint broke...just needs some tinkering to get it back.... kicking skill and hitting targets seems to be the theme.
Again surprised that the playing group didn't seem to have too many "solid" built guys...a lot of smaller run and carry type builds.
And yes probably either the bravest or dumbest guy in the crowd did ask "The terry question"...but it got skirted by the club review talk.
Again JON and Jacko top guys to talk too....JON is extremely shy and a little un-certain...Jacko is looking and sounding ok...he knows where he is at and was brutally honest about himself....so again great night, highly recommend anyone to go next year....it is a very unique club experience.

I just hope he gets a proper chance unlike say Casserley.
