After just missing the finals in his debut senior year in 2007, Lyon took the Sainters to 4th position last season. A great effort if you consider that many had considered them at the back end of their window. What's more, he did it effectively without the big G-Train. (As we've said many times, key forwards are only as good as the midfield feeding them.)

Their positional strength is as follows:
B Baker (28,181,154,34) Hudghton (32,191,227,14) Blake (28,191,136,33)
Geary (20,183,10,0) Allen (21,193,4,0) Dempster (25,192,73,11)
Gilbert (22,194,39,11)
HB Goddard (23,189,113,40 S.Fisher (26,192,96,9)
R.Clarke (23,189,41,6) Maguire (24,190,99,19)
Begley (22,188,29,7) Simpkin# (18,192,0,0)
L.Fisher (24,188,55,5)
Gwilt (188,88,26,6)
C Ray (23,187,75,32) Hayes (29,186,192,67) Jones (25,183,26,7)
Heyne (18,188,0,0) Armitage (20,183,16,10) X.Clarke (25,182,105,49)
Miles# (22,186,0,0) Connors (19,181,0,0)
Smith (18,184,0,0)
Howard# (21,182,2,0)
HF Gram (24,186,77,39) Riewoldt (26,193,158,320) Schneider (24,179,117,127)
Lynch (18,192,0,0) Gaertner# (19,199,0,0) Steven (18,180,0,0)
F Koschitzke (26,197,119,123) Dawson# (23,195,14,0) Milne (29,178,165,331)
Haretuku# (19,198,0,0) Cahill (18,193,0,0) Tungtalum# (18,178,0,0)
R King (30,201,215,80) Dal Santo (25,186,144,72) Montagna (25,178,98,61)
Gardiner (29,199,138,88) Ball (24,184,122,55) McQualter (22,179,35,7)
McEvoy (19,200,1,0) Eddy (21,182,13,3)
Stanley (18,200,0,0) McGarry# (18,1850,0)
McGrath# (18,208,0,0)
Their strengths are their core group of taller-medium ruckrovers and taller defenders.
Their weakness is their lack of running players around the ground.
(The Sainters have always liked wet grounds & wet conditions.)
They also have patched up rucks in King & Gardiner, hoping that McEvoy & some other can fast-track it.

For my mind, the Sainters will have a good crack at it this year with between 15-18 wins. But then finals will come and they'll have to run out a full game on a BIG ground in GOOD conditions.
That will be their challenge.
