A new coach for Brisbane will give new opportunity to many there.

A close inspection of the team indicates quite a few players that have been around for 3,4 & 5 years yet haven't shown enough for regular senior selection.
Maybe this is the heart of the reason Matthews has pulled up stumps.

Upon inspection, the positional depth indicates the flaws in the Brisbane team. Initially they seem like strengths but digging a bit deeper they are current holes that give rise to opportunity.

The team looks to be very strong in midfielders, yet most of these a one paced mediums who haven't shown real pace or class and have battled for regular selection. They desperately lack for the genuine goalkicking rovers that they had during their premiership era.

The defence appears a nice size, yet lack for genuine smaller defenders who can run with fast small attacks.

They certainly have the talls to do the job.

The apparent opportunity is to identify those 22-24yo midfielders who haven't shown enough, and turn these into rebounding defenders. This will add speed to the Brissie defence which has become "cut up" in recent seasons.

Brisbane is a team that needs alot of short term work and will provide Voss with excellent opportunity.
If he can shuffle his list into the right positions, he may see big improvement short term.

My guess, Brissie will hover just outside the 8 with their chances growing in the next 2-3 years. But they do need to recruit a handful of genuine speedy goalkicking rovers.

Out of interest Phantom do you take home ground advantage or any other factors into consideration when working out ladder position or is it done solely on list structure?

Good question.

I do take home ground advantage into consideration when:

1. Dealing with list structure issues.
Eg, Perth's bigger grounds, how that affects the types they recruit and their style of play.

2. When that advantage can mask flaws in a list structure and make a team look better than it is.

3. Fixture draws affect ladder positioning too.

As you've read so far, this year's previews are briefer than those of earlier years.
Some things I purosely omit though they will affect my thinking.

Of course, list structure is my favourite area of focus.
