2009 - We are Selling a Home game to Gold Coast

do you actually even live in that post code - I mean actually richmond - Mate no offense but it seems your saying only true richmond fans can be from 3121.

what a joke - your no better a tiger fan than me because you live there.

I actually pay for a membership and get little for it but the satisfaction i am being apart of my club - you at least get to see them reguarly.

Since I am a member - hell I am rapt I will get to see a game - makes being a member even more satisfying over the next 2 years.

Sorry mate, but you did choose a melbourne based club. I didn't choose to follow Brisbane, the gold coast or any other team that plays a home game out of my home state.

To Dyer Disc, there's no panic or conspiracy, it's just something i don't want the club to do.

You say it's not a seduction, but then you say it's a means to an end. We are just taking the money the AFL are offering.

My point is, what if the AFL offer money again in another 2 years for another market they'd like to expand into, and we need to give up 2 games a year for 700k. We've set a precedent now that we're open to this. There's no turning back.

I wasn't so much personally addressing you on the panic/conspiracy mentioning General...more people with your views in general on this thread. I read it as having little substance/precedent...and therefore worrying over potentially nothing. I don't see the risk myself and if I did see the possibility of what you talk of I would be super with you.

You can always say no, plenty of clubs have to the AFL on this topic. You just don't see that in the papers as it doesn't sell.

What I am saying General, is Wright/The Board have proven to be very shrewd operators financially. I have the utmost confidence they are only doing this as a debt buster. Once we are no longer in debt I am willing to make a bet with you we won't ever do this.

My partner and I buy 2 reserved seats, and last season I sponsored a player.

I didn't get to see all the home games as it is because of work committments, but I put in as much $$$ as I can, because I want the club to be successful. Next year, I was going to up my membership again. I don't do this for selfish reasons. If I wanted to be selfish, I'd get an 11 game home ticket for $140. The assertion that I am is offensive.

wtf? i take umbrage at the RFC selling a home game away from melbourne. it hurts. it hurts big time when $$$ is more important than supporters.

yep the club (richmond, victoria 3121) is bigger than the individual, but it appears it's not as big as the almighty $$$

This is what I mean by panic / hysteria. This is utter nonsense. Think about what you are saying before you post it. Technically you are saying, Richmond is chasing 800K and more interested in getting any dollar they can get from the AFL. Rather than appeasing their supporters/sponsors and respecting the history, passion and name of our club.

Utter nonsense. Sorry to speak so strongly Ian4, I have no issue with you, but this is hysterical in my opinion. You seem to have taken this decision by our club personally and that is disappointing.

Personally I am highly appreciative the club is being proactive in it's financial responsibility to get rid of the debt of the organisation I've contributed towards supporting. I am happy supporters elsewhere get to see our club play, I am happy we are pushing our brand nationally and I am happy we will get more TV coverage quite possibly as a result.

I'm also happy to miss attending one game if it means I get to enjoy it at a BBQ with good mates, knowing the game is making our club stronger financially, even IF it did chip into the worth of a membership I had.

I hope you're not directing that at me General because I have made no such accusations of you. I understand your fears I just think they are unwarranted.

DD, i'm highly impressed with your opinions on PRE, but ur in the wrong here. there is a huge risk of alienating the supporters for a few measly $$$. not worth the risk, and i personally won't stand for it.

yep that is part of what i am saying and it is not utter nonsense. if they weren't interested in chasing the $$$ then they wouldn't be doing this. it's not rocket science.

Fair enough Ian4, will most certainly have to agree to disagree then.

I've stated my reasons why they are doing it in my opinion and I agree, it's not rocket science. We obviously feel strongly on different sides of the coin.

I'm not sure you understand the connotation of the expression you are using though. "Chasing the dollars" generally means caring about nothing but money...as in greed....as I have stated clearly. I believe the club are doing it to erase our debt.

If you were 3 Million in debt....had a famous name....fell on hard times...and decided to do a television ad for 500K that you would normally never entertain endorsing....is that chasing dollars? I don't see it that way.

I see it as you doing what it takes to look after your own and erase your debt so you can determine your family's own fate and not have it controlled by others.

There's been a fair bit of mentioning of us lighting up with dollar signs in our eyes and selling out more and more as years go by, as i said, other clubs have not done this. If anything other clubs have pulled out of it after a short time.

I just see no basis for concern and appreciate the club being proactive in getting rid of our debt and/or seeting up financial security nets.

no worries.

your the one who narrowed the melbourne thing even further - maybe that wasn't your intent.

it doesn't really worry me anyway - I mean I am not used to seeing my team much.

I will take the next 2 years as a bonus - I mean after that I'm sure the tiges will get a minimum 1 away game every year in SEQ anyway. its a wait and see if we sell anything after that.

There were others talking about pulling there $$$ if this went ahead. If your not in this group, great.

Absolute disgrace. Take care of your members, dont chase dirty money. Well done tigers another game that 30,000 loyal members wont be able to attend.

More melodramatic nonsense general.

I doubt very much that the home game they play up here would be attended by 30,000 tigers supporters if played in Melbourne.

What I am sure about is that it would be attended by loyal members who live up here.

The club is funding the cost of members to get into an away game so it's not as if they're not thinking about members in doing this.

Also, why can't you be supportive of interstate loyal members being able to go and see a home game. I'm just as loyal as you. I buy a full membership each year even though I'm lucky to get to more than 2 games a year in Melbourne and they haven't played in QLD for 2 seasons. Richmond is a well-followed club with supporters everywhere. They are just as important as the supporters in Melbourne.

not sure how many times this needs to be repeated so i will say this again in plain english...

RFC members who pay good $$$ for a reserved seat will not retain their reserve seat in that away game because only home team members get the reserved seats. as we will be the away team, we will will not be entitled to a reserved seat for that away game, we will only receive general admission entry. reserve seat members will be paying for 11 home games but will only receive their reserved seat for 10 home games.

understand?

Reserve seat / general admission...who cares. At least you get to see the game. It's not like the old days where general admission means you're standing in the outer. I pay $170 per year for an 11 game membership (with no reserve seat) and get to use it for, at most 3 games per year. I don't care where I sit when I use it as I'm just grateful to be watching the Tigers play. That's what you go to the footy to see isn't it?

Gee, if you really want a reserve seat at the away game, go to www.ticketek.com.au and buy one.

LMAO, obviously hasn't attended Victoria Park and had your leg pi$$ed on by Maggie supporters too lazy to make it. If you had, you would have appreciated just getting in the The Dome ;) I'm so sorry your cup is half empty!!!!!!!

thats right, you pay $170 for a general admission membership. i pay $500 for a 17 game membership with a reserved seat for the 11 home games. so who cares? i care, and the club had better damn well care! whats the point of me giving $500 to the club if i'm not getting value for money with my membership? i may as well pay my $170 and the club misses out.

i have actually, i went there a few times in my teenage years. just goes to show what a brilliant stadium telstra dome is. a lot of you people hate it and i have no idea why. you don't realise how good we've got it. but no, a lot of you are quite happy to go to a stadium on SEQ when the players change rooms are tin sheds.
