2009 - We are Selling a Home game to Gold Coast

Where are those people who got up me a few years ago for suggesting we play a game or two in Tassie instead of at the Dump?

I'm not going THERE again :)

rosy23 said:
I'm not against selling out to play at the GC but it won't be as beneficial to us as Tassie could have been.

But at least it makes for a half decent holiday. Tassie ... If I want to be cold I can go sit in my backyard in shorts :P

And how long was Hawthorn,s plan to stay in Tassie?A hell of alot longer than 2yrs.With the full backing of both the AFL and the Tassie Govt.Thats the difference.
Once again we got bent over by the AFL.

My whole point though is while we are struggling on the field, and struggling to make funds in the economic world we currently live in, for the time being getting $800,000 into our coffers is hardly a bad thing. Also traveling to the Gold Coast will add sponsorship dollars as "the brand" will be more national.

Hawthorn have now got the leg up because they pushed Tasmania, and they are making stupid money of $5 million dollars profit :o a year.

How are we supposed to keep up with that? In 2 years time that is a massive difference in the top end to us! While Hawthorn are successful on the field and we are not, we need some thing to be able to keep up. This is until we start producing some on field success.

Carlton despite being pitiful on the field like us are going to make $2 million dollars profit. We are making $700,000. Slowly but surely we are getting pushed down the order. A club like the Kangaroos can get a sponsorship of $5.5 million over 3 years.

I don't think it's ideal by the way. I just think it is necessary. I can understand some fans frustration, but what is the main point to your anger? I less game for the club in Melbourne, or one less game for the fan?

At the end of the day, if it means we are financially secure, then there should be no complaint.

Agree with this

Ahhh! A 15 minute drive to the footy will go down well. Plenty of Tiger supporters from Vegas and on the Coast to add to the spectacle, money in the bank for the RFC and hopefully an away game at the Gabba to put the cherry on top.

Beats a Richmond vs Melbourne debacle at the Dump.

OR,

Making finals by that one "home" game (that we may well have lost at Telstra Dome)

Form at TD in 2008:

WB - draw
St K - tight loss
Melb - win
Bris - win
Geel - loss

I can't see how TD was the ultimate factor in these results.

No.The Pies stated they would play any interstate side on the GC at the expense of that interstate,s side home game. Not the Pies home game.

Either way your argument that none of the other "big 4" would do this is wrong.

Geez, we had a good year at TD didn;t we ;D Sad when 50% at the TD considered good - go back a few more years - doubt it's pretty reading - especially 5pm games.

I hear what you are saying though and of course the better your team, the less the ground matters. My comment was more a counter to a rather laughable comment that losing a "home" game at the Tomb could cost us a finals birth. Which takes me back to the highlighted comment again ;)

What you mean either way? lol
Geez a Pies supporter would have to decide to go to either Perth or if the Pies had their way Brisbane.Entirely different senerio to selling your home game.

I dont give a stuff about Carlton mate. They can play in Siberia for all i care.
The issue i have is what long term benefit is it for the RFC? None.
To top it off by the sounds of it we would get a favorable draw if we say yes to the GC games. We bowed to the AFL,s pressure because the AFL need to play games in the GC.At least Eddies everywhere would have told the AFL to get stuffed!

But you used the other "big 4" as part of your argument. You cannot then say "you don't give stuff" when that part of your argument is shot down.

Getting back to my other question - what is the long term benefit of two games at TD?

Sorry WT you must have me mixed up with someone else.I havnt used the Big 4 as part of my arguement.
As far as the TD deal goes. There nver has been and never will be a long term benefit to the RFC.Until we get someone with Balls to tell the AFL that our home is the MCG we will continue to be bent over by the AFL.

My bad capt it was the General.

It would be fantastic for the Tiges to play on the GC. At least I would be guaranteed to see them play once a year.

This is obviously a plan from the AFL to keep AFL on the Gold Coast pending the start of the new club.

It will also give them an idea which home games for the new Gold Coast team they can play at the Gabba.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Please not let this be true. After all the magnificent work gary march has done in recent times, he's gone and stuffed it up in one fowl swoop.
:veryupset :'( :veryupset :'( :veryupset :'( :veryupset :'( :veryupset :'( :veryupset :'( :veryupset :'( :veryupset :'( :veryupset :'( :veryupset

Thankfully, not everyone sees this the same way as you Ian - would naturally expect some Viccy's to feel like you, but most would want the club to thrive and $400K guaranteed vs maybe making $20-50K from game at the Tomb - no brainer in $20M dollar annual budget.

Come on up Ian...I'll shout u drinks (beer) all arvo at GCoast game ;D

PS.....the term I believe is "on fell swoop"....I was corrected once and just passing it on :)

You still involved with the Qld Supporters 29? We should try an make something special outa this somehow for everyone... Got any thoughts? PRE Golf Day? Bungy jumping practice for Claw and Craig? Nude Mud wrestling for Tigerbob? Should beable to fund all that just off the solarium savings from Terry that week?

Is it guaranteed it will be at the expense of a TD game? or will the afl screw us again? Where did the figure of $400,000 come from? The newspaper article said possibly $250,000. Currently I get a Victorian 17 membership, although thinking about getting an AFL membership, how would that affect those memberships? Will it be a Victorian 16 membership with a reduced cost?
In two minds about this deal.

Yes, still involved.

I love your ideas. Maybe organise the mud wrestling at Wet N Wild.

This would be a bonus for us especially as we are due for a Lions game up here next season as well.
