2011 - National U18 Champs

Agree with all the positive comments on Greene, not a particularly penetrating kick but picks the right options and plays within his limitations. If we're after a true onballer he fits the bill nicely, if Grigg and Kavanagh are gone I think he would have to be next in line.

Sounds like someone we could use. We have some very very good kicks in the team. I think our kicking philosophy doesn't mean a player has to nail 60m passes. Just need to be able to hit majority of targets and knowing limitations is a key to this. Would be more than happy with Greene.

According to a BF Poster we are one of three clubs after Steven Verrier. A tall line-breaking mid from WA.

Another Draft watcher from SA has Mitch Grigg sliding to 25. Hard nut that is a good long 60m kick. These 2 added to our midfield would be invaluable. Morris to the backline and add Lids to the middle. A fully fit Conca. Helbig as well with a bit more size. Am now very excited about our future if we can nail this draft.

No way Grigg will slide to 25...won't even be there at 14 imo.

I think if we can pickup Greene we are getting another very good mid who can win his own footy and I don't think you can ever have too many of those. Will be ready to go next year and our midfield will be that much closer to completion:

Martin, Cotchin, Foley, Deledio, Conca, Greene

Looks pretty imposing in a few years...

Most likely not amcre. But u never know what is going to happen with GWS picks. Every one thought Darling was a certainty to go top 10-15 with the GWS picks etc. How many KPP will they take considering they took 3 mids and a CHB in uncontracted players and their targets next year are a mid and a ruck. Will they punt on Crozier and Kavanagh? Read somewhere Haydn Hector will go 1st round to them. Also how much emphasis will go on athletic players in the draft as opposed to a footballer in Grigg. He certainly won't go 25 but 14 isn't a stretch particularly if Crows swap pick 10 for 4 in some form of Tippett trade. If Crows keep 10 then i expect him to go there.

My hope would be presuming Adel end up with pick 4 and GC with 10:

1.Coniglio
2.Patton
3.Tyson
4.Wingard
5.Longer
6.Hoskin-Elliot
7.Buntine
8.D.Smith
9.Kavanagh
10.Elton
11.Crozier
12.Sumner
13.McInnes
14.Grigg
15.Hector

Big wish but not beyond possibility with GWS array of midfielders already on their list.

I certainly hope you are right. Grigg or Kavanagh would be two of the best mids in the draft that could potentially slide. Our midfield would be really complete with either one of these two complimenting the others.

Kavanagh comes with some baggage but with his upside I think it would be worth it.

Third option would be Greene....

Agree on all counts.

After seeing Jack Darling slid last year for no good reason, I think at 14 we will walk away with a very, very good footballer.

In an era when kicking is at an all time high at the selection table surely Grigg couldnt possibly fall to pick 14 could he ??

Unlikely but then again Daniel Rich went from certain top 3 to pick 7, Hurn defied many predictions when he went late first round and Jack Darling inexplicably fell to pick 26. It may not be Grigg but I'm tipping there will be a few surprises.

Not a great athlete is Grigg. Which is exactly why alot of those slid. I agree that Greene is the man if the other 2 have gone. I actually forgot about him in my top 15. I reckon he would go above the other 2 potentially. Can rack up huge numbers.

If not being athlete is Grigg’s problem then Toby Greene has huge issues. Both are old school footballers but Grigg has the much more damaging shoe. And i don’t mind Greene, think he will be a very good player to have rolling through your midfield. Even Liam Sumner & Hayden Crozier would bring things to the club that we lack. At 14, we can get someone who will fill a need and a be a very good long term player.

So what's the bet one or two of these guys that we like slip down to 14 but then we pick someone else completely, a bit like the Batchelor pick last year?

Yep! Nobody saw that coming Disco.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing sometimes.....

More so then ever this could happen this year. But I still think that the pick is being undersold on PRE. I would rather invest it in youth then trade it on a iffy kicking/questionable health type.

Yeah agreed. For years we've bitched about them trading away good picks and now we've got people downplaying it's value. Crazy. If anything I think it's a good year to have a pick like this because the talent after the first 5/6 is so even. I hope they take advantage of this draft's perception and get hemselves another pick or two in the top 40.

Stop it, you are reading from my pray book. I reckon we can still improve out of this draft. If Francis Jackson has improved and is capable we should back him & his team in to get this right. There is nothing to getting your first picks right, we need second, third, fourth round picks to become footballers. And if its such a crappy crop let's get some teams to cough up some picks.

Agree with the sentiments guys but I'm putting in my own 'Dangerfield Clause'. ;D

Why not just draft Sam Kerridge? Good ball winner, racks up touches, tackles, kicks goals, fast but struggles hitting targets from all reports. Sounds like an ideal Dangerfield replacement.

Bang. But keep it hush hush. I want him at 37. No more Kerridge mentioning allowed. Reckon its 50/50. ;D

By the way his kicking issues are massively exaggerated. Not bad at all. Not great below his knees so that would need to be worked on.

Don't think we will draft an iffy kick. If we ended up with Grigg/Kerridge id be happy. I also wonder with Kavanagh how much its just him preserving himself so he's ready for AFL rather than being soft. I mean, the kid knows he's a first round talent. Maybe giving himself the best chance to get drafted.
