2011 - National U18 Champs

Early in the WA v Vic Metro game, Coniglio dominating.

http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/16931/Default.aspx#fixtureid=5742&tab=Stats

After being behind early, Vic Metro climbs home to win by kicking 4 last qtr goals.

Coniglio BOG.

Vic Metro 12.13 (85) d WA 11.9 (75)

Vic Metro
Goals: Patton 4.3, Crozier 4.1, Bussey 1, Hoskin-Elliot 1, Tyson 1, Viney 1
Best: Patton, Crozier, Talia, Payne, Longer, Viney

WA
Goals: Yarran 3.2, Coniglio 2, Garlet 2, Newman 2, Eardley, Hamling
Best: Coniglio, Yeo, O'Meara, Bolger, Carter, Newman

Greene appears to have started well, early, but run out of gas after half time.

Just looking at the stats for the Vic Metro game, Dom Tyson had 22 touches, majority contested with a 86% DE. Nice game for the boy but it must be noted the majority were handballs.

No chance Evo. I don't think I have seen a bigger lock for pick 1 in my time watching TAC.

Get a look at Billy Longer, reckon he is the one we should go for. Reminds me of Leuenberger at the same age.
yeah. I'd seen him at Eastern a few times and was highly impressed - I didn't realise he was already on everyone's radar.

crozier is also very good, but i notice now he's taken that speccy he's on everyone's radar as well. *sigh*

It's hard to get excited about the u/18s this year when our first pick is going to be so deep. Can't wait for this GWS/GC farce to be over.

Dom Tyson, great name. I always read it as Tom Dyson though! Dyslexic I guess.

Crozier would be a good fit for us. Classy half forward, bit of Daisy Thomas about him. He might be floating around at our pick.

yeah, he's a talent. Not exactly what we need though.

I can't help thinking we nearly have all boxes ticked except for a quality CHB and there wont be ione there at pick 18 or thereabouts. I'd be pretty tempted to trade our first pick for a young CHB at someone else's club. A Frawley, Jamieson or a Ben Reid type . Throw heaps of money at them.

Daniel Talia's little brother will be there I reckon Evo. He can be that CHB. But I would explore the trade avenue as well.

Don't think everyone understands, GWS have got a much better deal then Gold Coast.

And they'll need it...

A young Daisy. Now we're talkin.

We really lack some class in our forward half outside the big guys. Leysy would have those types high on our priority list.

They often slide actually evo. McCarthy last year at 34 for instance. Even Watson who was the pick of them got to 18.

A lot will depend on how Rance continues in the 2nd half of the year. If h continues the trend he's on, between him & Grimes we starting to look OK. Also Astbury as well.

What about Daniel Talia himself? Highly rated juniro but hasnt had much of a look in at the Crows. Not sure if thats due to injury or form but could be one to look at during trade time. Considering he was in the 2009 draft he could be out of contract this year.

Sure. But guys like Reid, Frawley and Jamieson are good to go right now. We already know they will be good 10 year key backs. pick #18 is still 17/18 years old right now and a comp[lete unknown.

Our window is finally opening. It is time to get agresssive IMO.

Andy Otten is another possible target. Good Box Hill boy. :)

Yeah agree it is a good time to get aggressive.

Those guys you name wont leave their clubs though. All are the No 1 defender at clubs either at the top or on the rise. All would be under contract with us needing to trade into a top 5 pick to land them.

Its the guys at the disgruntled clubs or ones on the slide (like Otten) that are better targets for leysy.

Seems to me times are changing. Money talks.

If Judd, Ablett and (probably) Scully can be poached, anyone can.

They were all out of contract though.

These guys are all contracted. Frawley & Jamieson are both on mega long term deals & Reid is also locked away. They wont be going anywhere no matter what we offer.

Agree though that times will change. Especially once free agency kicks in.

Phil Davis the other young CHB looking the goods but I think he's contracted for a couple of years too.

Not if weve spent it on Dangerfield ;D ;D

Another one to watch as attacking backman is Matthew Buntine. At 188cm he is a good size and attacks the game. Lovely kick is really good at being the third man up and launching attacks the other way. Great user of the ball and runs hard to be involved. A better Matthew Suckling. If he has grown at all then he could become anything. One to watch at the draft camp.

I have given up on Longer, the way he is going he will be top 6. We just won't be in that range. Have to start looking what will be around between 14-18.
