The trade period may have been a disaster for us here in Pie Land but we’re determined to make up for it with some of the canniest late-draft selections the competition has ever seen!

By way of a reminder, we matched the bid for Reef McInnes, a big-bodied midfielder, and then took promising Tasmanian key forward, Jackson Callow, with our second pick.

Expect us in the coming four picks to further strengthen our options in front of the ball but, for this pick, we’re addressing our appalling lack of pace and outside run.

With pick #56, Collingwood selects:

Lachlan Carrigan
Sandringham Dragons
09/12/2002
191cm / 78kg

Rated elite for speed and endurance, we think Carrigan could be a steal at point in the draft. The kid shows Pendlebury-like traits in the way he moves and he has a fine left foot to match. In time, we see Carrigan running up and down the wing as an upgrade on Chris Mayne.

@Streak, you've got 3 of the next 4 picks (assuming the Bears use them all).

Pick # 57 - Brisbane

Carter Michael

Height: 188cm
Weight: 74kg

Lions ecstatic that Carter lasts til here (although if we had known we would have matched on Coleman). Elite kick from defense with pace, he could be the small/medium defender the Lions desperately need to fill Rich's role when he retires.

Needs to fill out, but probably the best of the academy picks available to the Lions in terms of filling a need.

At pick 58 the Saints select
Seamus Mitchell
180cm
Midfielder
Bendigo Pioneers

The Robinvale local has elite speed and a Smokey to go much earlier so Saints have a bargin

Pick # 59 Brisbane

Logan Young - Claremont WAFL

Height: 191cm
Weight: 83kg

Kid who emerged this year after a massive amount of off field work in the preseason. Contested ball beast with an outstanding work ethic and endurance to match. Not the quickest player, but many believe his speed, particularly burst speed, will improve with work in an AFL system. Is strong in the contest, but has plenty of scope to fill out his frame and become a dominant inside midfielder.

Pick #60 Brisbane

Saxon Crozier - Morningside/Lions Academy

Height: 190cm
Weight: 80kg

Wouldn't surprise me if the Lions actually pass with this pick and look to keep some room to move for after the draft. Crozier is another academy prospect who my Lions supporting brother (can you believe that, loser!) says will definitely end up on the Lions list. Plays as a wingman and reads the play really well. Ticks all the boxes as an outside player, but inside ability not a strength at this stage. A project who could return some value in a few years.

So far, Collingwood has taken a big-bodied mid, a key position forward and a midfield running machine.

It's time to add some potency and unpredictability forward of the ball.

At pick #61, Collingwood takes:

Brodie Lake
NT Thunder
16/05/2002
185cm / 79kg

An excellent mark with speed and agility to boot, Lake is a like-for-like replacement for Jayden Stephenson. He will occasionally have a run in the midfield but will be more damaging forward of the ball as a tricky match up for opposition defences. We like the fact he's a well-rounded player who is a tackling machine and can win his own ball. Needs to build a tank but, with his many dimensions, we can see early games in 2021 for Lake.

**NB: I believe Lake is tied to the Suns but assume they won't or cannot take him here.

You're up, @footballmonk

With pick #62 North select Tom Highmore. 22 year old defender who took the most marks of any player in his first season in the SANFL, having previously played in Canberra. He’s already a good size 192cm/88 kg and will be ready to play a Broad-esque role from next season.
Hawthorn @toothless are up next.

Fantastic pick, monk. Wouldn't be surprised to see him go higher in the real thing. A side like Hawthorn could use him as a plug-and-play replacement for Frawley and Stratton.
