Geez I'm feeling old..
just noticed a highlights video from the AFL Generation Next series on YouTube..
STEELY GREEN from WA.
My prediction is if Steely gets a gig.... unless he produces a Steely Jnr father/son draftee..... There will NEVER be another Steely make it to the big time!
Had me thinkin Stormy Daniels for a moment!

Yeah you did. As a winger who could become an onballer. Bont played as onballer at TAC Cup and played significant on-ball minutes at the champs. You bought Bont into the Cowan discussion.
I'm not anti Cowan, he reminds me a bit of Sam Docherty. But in way has he resembled a midfielder at any stage.

So now you raise Oliver as a link in someway to Cowan? That's the Bont and Oliver you have linked in Cowan discussions. Talk about talking the highpoint in a situation. Look at the list of Medal winner since 2010, only 4 from 16 have had decent careers. Most weren't even rookied. It's no pathway guide.

Can't remember on Oliver, don't think I was that anti but you have a good memory of pointing out blokes I got wrong.
Not having a go but you did allude to the fact the Morrish was irrelevant, it's not when you stack that up with all the other achievements. I also think you are missing my point completely, dual position players come with a premium, generally speaking they offer a solid floor, not all the players I mentioned were identical in their skill set. Cowan is a rebounder/wingman with some ability to replicate Williams with some time in the middle. Goater was a rebounder/midfielder and came in with a similar CV to Bont, the main difference being time spent in defence as opposed to a wing. I think the Docherty comparison is also a good one for Cowan, Doch can also roll through the midfield which he did this year in a quite a few matches. That's the type of input I'm talking about, not necessarily becoming a full time mid.

Surprised there's been no mention of it on here as yet, must be too many celebrating last nights big erection win by Labor.

Draft snippet on 7 news last night about Matthew Elliott's son Will as a late selection or rookie prospect.

203 cm key forward was to be Oakleigh's capt this year and supposedly possible top ten draft prospect but popped a knee n missed the season.
Was on with his dad n doing a bit of basic kick to kick so obviously he's still on the long haul recovery, but surely someone like this would be the no brainer no cost sneaky late selection. Tuck him away in a warm sunny corner, chuck on some fertilizer n sprinkle with water occasionally who knows what might be unveiled in a couple of years.

If bad hair is his biggest problem I'm instantly a massive fan. Purposefully had bad hair myself as a youngster, now that I'm a civilized n tidy old fart I don't even have enough hair left to go bad, which is even worse. Bloke can't even complain about having a bad hair day when the hair is genetically bad 24 / 7.

if Steely gets a gig....

I really hope he does. Sounds like deserves it.

I haven’t seen him play, but apparently he has a phenomenal work ethic.

This kid is already a bit of a WA legend. Some notable stuff about him:

1. He is quick, has great agility and a big tank. Being compared to Liam Baker.
2. He got hospitalised after being hit by lightning a few years ago.
3. He is an excellent sailor who was considered as a kid to be a future Olympic Games participant.
4. He is named after Steely Dan because they were his Mum’s favourite band.
5. He has that special ability to step up to whatever level of footy he is playing, and has been compared to Mark Coughlan in this regard.

I’d love us to draft him, but will be well gone at our first pick.

Not sure Spook. Very good at WAFL level, and could be good insurance if we lose either Lynch or Riewoldt.

There has to be question marks over how much Jack has left in the tank. History says one more season can be a performance chasm for older players. If he falls away, I think we are badly exposed for AFL ready height up forward.

Keitel reads the play as a forward very well. I he reminds me of Jeff Hogg a bit.

But given a number of clubs have run the rule over him, including both WA clubs, he is stock car at best.

Interesting that how's his kicking and ground level play , work rate, etc.One thing through always kicks goals.

One player slipping is Knobel Bully. Can he play permanently forward, or is he more of a ruck forward type ?.

Hopefully he's not un unfulfilled talent like his old man, seriously elegant batman who played one good series and then disappeared from view. Closest thing to Bill Lawry I've seen since watching cricket.

Elliott had more than one good series. He hammered Alan Donald and co in South Africa in 97 before dominating the Ashes that year. The knee curtailed him early and his big mouth allegedly lost him the trust of the players after one tour, which sealed his fate. Fantastic batsman, and you're right, unfulfilled at the top level. Better batsman than Langer in my book.

He's a ruck but kicked 5 goals resting forward, surprisingly good set shot and takes his marks at the highest point, very similar to big Mason Cox, that's my template for the moment. As a ruck he's not far behind Harry Barnett, not so much with overall production but certainly his tap work is up there with the best. His speed is relatively poor but I don't see that as an issue, I reckon when he puts on another 10-12 kg he'll be good to go. Might need a bit of patience but he strikes me as being AFL quality.

Also better than Hayden and look what he did when he got his chance.

His other son, Sam making first class debut for Vic's v. Tassie, made 80 n.o. took 3 wickets.

Theres so many possibilities here.

Be great for an expansion franchise, who are all at sea.

Make a coin toss specialist, gauging the breeze

Leave basketballers in his wake

Nail his colors to the mast

Come home with a wet sail.

Only boxing and horse racing provide more idioms

I wont be surprised if Brian Taylor has offered to pay his salary

The key takeout of the article>>> They (Tigers) arguably done more to strengthen their premiership prospects than any club.
This is a no brainier, but somehow when the trades were completed, media and some social media followers were in the belief it was Geelong.

There is no way that Bowes/Bruhn/Henry supersede Taranto/Hopper. That's just media hogwash. Quite simply, it's proven top 10 talent V potential.

Taranto and Hopper could well propel us to another premiership in 2023, Bowes/Bruhn/Henry will be lucky to play games.
Their pick 7 will also take several years to develop.

The cats will probably get some sort of value out of Henry, Bruhn and Bowes but the fact remains that all 3 finished 2022 in the vfl or at best in and out of the team.

They are handy pick ups
