2022 Draft Thread

Whats Tom Scully like?
The problem with picking Scully is his lack of exposure at the top level, only one state game & no senior experience. At least Lemmey has proven himself against the bigger bodies last year, I think his body of work is a bit more complete. Scully would be ok if there's no one left on the board, maybe he's our back-up plan.

NAB league very few poor games, state form uber consistent, VFL form good, Clark has risen to every challenge, I expect him to have the most impact out of all the draftees next year.
Did he play VFL? Doesn't come up on a stats search. Seen him play twice, 1 NAB when he was beaten. 1 champs when he was good but not in the best. He played well in the champs GF though which I saw on TV.

IMO he's late first round this year, in a strong normal draft year he's second round.

For me it's between Lemmey & Gruzewski, I think the latter is the more versatile option but Lemmey is the power forward. Might miss both in which case I'd look at Knobel/Verrall & then perhaps Bradtke or Scully.

Looking Like both Scully & Lemmy has dropped down the order a lot this year
these 2 boys were looking like top 10 picks coming into 2022 and had alot of people excited

When is the SA combine and would be good to see their numbers

Sa oct 15
Wa oct 16

Like the Gruz but he is only 193cm so a mid fwd. Of the real talls my differentiation would be who is the best overhead mark. Whats your observation on this? Do you think Barnett and Keeler will be gone?

Good question, Gruzewski looks to be elite in that Jeremy Howe type manner but he's not a power forward as you say, I'm actually looking at him as the heir apparent for the Grimes role, he has the closing speed, I believe he has the tank & he has that added flexibility if you need a swingman. Lemmey looked a little bit lost at times this year, he lacked a bit of confidence & his marking suffered as a result, but I'd be careful about judging him on one season alone, last year he looked confident & had a bit of swagger about him. I also believe he played some decent footy in the ressies late this year so maybe things are starting to click. My gut says go with Lemmey because genuine power forwards are hard to find. If you get lucky with this pick then it makes the list build infinitely easier.

Barnett being the top ruck will probably go in the 20-40 range, I'd say very unlikely to be available at our pick. Keeler I've seen anywhere from pick 12 to pick 35 but he's probably gone & I wouldn't even be surprised to see him snapped up in the first round. I think clubs will view Keeler as slightly risky given he can look a little bit lazy with his kicking but he has the complete trick bag & will probably make a decent supporting ruck.

If Lemmey's issue was confidence and potentially stepping up to leading patterns that you need at the higher level, then he's got a pretty good couple of players to learn from at the club in Jack and Lynch. Fingers crossed he is still there at our 1st pick. If they are there at our picks I'd be going for Lemmey and Scully. Both have slide considerably this year, so if we can iron out the issues they slipped due to, then they are the perfect value options to take.

Looking around different forums and most phantoms and predictions have Lemmy outside top 50 and your boy knobel not getting drafted or Rookie.

With our picks being #53 & #63 looking like coming in between 4-8 places depending on FS/Academy bids
could we be a chance maybe to get these 2 boys ?

Or now that we will have a few Rookie spots we may have some train on players to select from

The other one that seems to be falling there (and has been brought up on this site before) is Jaxon Binns.

Bullus - would you draft Binns with 1 of our 2 picks?

I think we're well placed for Knobel but I would be surprised if Lemmey drifted that far, especially given clubs like Melbourne are sniffing around for key position prospects. At the moment I have the key forward list as something like -

1. Cadman
2. Jefferson
3. Keeler
4. Lemmey
5. Verrall (r/f)
6. Knobel (r/f)
7. Foster
8. Bradtke
9. Scully

Lemmey got a combine invite, that means multiple clubs are interested, doing the maths I'd say it will be touch & go but sometimes you get lucky. Pick 50 would be his outer range I would think.

Yes, I think Binns is exactly the type to give you maximum returns with a late 40s pick, no problem picking him if we manage to stitch up at least one tall. Statistically Binns is a standout, very good numbers & players who can run all day are gold.
