2022 Draft Thread

What if Sydney Stack put himself in the national draft would we take him with one of our picks. He’d have to be better than anyone that late in the draft.

If we have 6 picks I would go; Binns, Keeler, Allan, Petric, Hagan and O. Murdoch. All fit a need in VFL and depth.

Are you talking about the Afl academy game against Collingwood

That would explain why i cant find it in vfl archives.

Not really vfl form.

Other than will ashcroft, The 18 yos playing in a mens vfl side against another vfl mens side get 50% gametime, outside roles and dont get used. 10 touches is a good game.

Clarke in an u18 side would have been status quo for him - 85% time on ball, back of the stoppage, limited defensive requirements.

IMO, Clarkes limitations are his pace and one-sidedness.

He Finds the ball and attacks it, but i expect more damage with the ball from a top 10.

Im gonna stick my neck out and say hes more anthony miles than joel selwood

As such, i hope geelong take him at 7

I think the fact we've delisted him would tell you the answer. If we wanted him on the main list, we'd have promoted him with our last pick in the ND, why would we use an earlier pick to get the same outcome??

The clear answer is not a chance that we take him in the ND. Theres only a slim chance that we give him another crack and IMO thats in the pre-season supplemental period

So much groupthink. Everyone scared to be too different to anyone else.

We would need several top-40 picks to get that haul.

You need to watch more games of Clark,he is dual sided ,and his biggest issue,but a good issue is he tries to do too much.
I don't think he is a Selwood type though,Hobbs was more a Selwood type.

They didn't have Van es in their top 40,he tested well at the combine (not that means much) but he looks a likely kp backman

* dual-sided by hand & foot
* two way runner
* leadership credentials
* 50% contested possessions
* Vic Country MVP (u/18,u/17)
* 19 disposals vs Collingwood Ressies
* 0.6 goals a game (NAB League)
* NAB League Team of the Year

I know all that (though i cant see too many needle threading, off balance left kicks, such as the genuine duel sided do in the old sense of the term; a short dump -kick on non-preferred doesnt earn a duel sided tag from me.)

But these prospects get an armchair ride - they get selected for everything, they get ideal roles, they get looked after by the umps etc etc.

A case in point is jaspa fletcher - won the academy series brownlow with a 19 disposal average as a fulltime onballer and very low defensive requirement.

There were a dozen more deserving kids.

Jack higgjns junior CV another case study

Ive stuck my neck out, so i expect it gets a few chops.

Like all these calls, only time will tell.

I stuck my neck out on RCD - at the time i claimed 'standing up in tackles meant he was getting tackled.' (Since become one of my chaff sorting indexes) and was proven almost solo right.

Ive been wrong on a few, and ill be wrong again.

But theres not many necks being stuck out

On the topic of RCD, I think I accurately highlighted the downside (see 2018 draft top 50), he was a boom/bust player & you typically get a 50% return but sometimes it pays off, see Cripps, sometimes it fails like it did in this instance.

Not sure what you mean by neck being stuck out, have a go at doing a top 50 & then see the responses you get for the next 5 years.

Why would we, we just de-listed him & better in what sense ?

Yes he is talented but he doesn't do the work or be professional enough for the AFL.

Not everyone is suited & unfortunately @ this point in time Syd isn't

I declared rcd a bust/bust player :cool:

But take your point.

Short necks wasnt directed at you,

More this years media driven hive think in general.

Im with Shifter, who declared it a real lottery year

In the sense that there was crap available at our pick. If the kids available you rated a 4 out of 10 but you rated Stack a 6 out of 10.
If the club kept in contact and knew he was doing all he could to get back in the system. The penny has to drop sometime with him.
Or maybe I’m being a bit sentimental in my old age.

Good Call Bengal, he is the one I am hoping for as well. If he works out it will give Gibcus more of a chance to develop as a forward. Being a Victorian is also a bonus as the go home factor seems to be growing.
