2022 Draft Thread

Connor Ballenden? He did a medical with Hawthorn mid season so he's thereabouts for a second tilt.

But didn’t get picked up then although rucks have been selling well.

Tell me this. Did we make a mistake with Marbiol Chol and GC.
I might be accused of a certain unwillingness to let go. Both he and Stacky are similar in that for different reasons neither think AFL is life and death
important.
It takes time with these blokes.

Sorry this question has probably been asked before but how many picks do we have and how many players do we need to take to fill our list?.
We have 33 on the Senior list, 4 Category A rookies and 1 Category B rookie for a total of 38.

You have to have 36 to 38 on the list, plus you can have up to 6 Category A and 2 Category B, with a maximum of 44 combined from those three groups.

Just guessing we will get to 36 on the Senior List with the two draft picks 53 & 63 and upgrade Pickett from the rookie list.

Then we'll see who didn't get drafted and likely rookie list two of them.

So we'll have 36 on the Senior List, plus 5 Category A rookie's and 1 Category B rookie for 42 listed players.

With two spots available for the mid-season draft next year if we want to grab someone we like lighting it up in a league somewhere around Oz.

I think we erred in letting Mabs go, he was progressing just fine for a tall but seemed to be in & out of the side. On the bright side, CCJ needed those handful of games to get us that second rounder, I think things probably have evened themselves out once you take that into account.

There was a 'go home' factor for Chol as well with family up north. And getting more senior matches.

Also he had at Richmond Lynch/Riewoldt as the 1/2 punch.

At the Suns the 1/2 punch is B King/Casboult?

I'd reckon he might have been good for the second spot. And they got lucky when King went down and then he or Casboult didn't have to fight for that second spot.

Bully, what's your take on Cody Brand got delisted by dons didn't mind him in the draft year.
I just had a quick look at his VFL numbers & they are decent, not sure what's going on at Essendon, seems to be a hasty delisting, he's filled out pretty well, did ok against Richmond ressies too. I have no idea as to why he got the chop, might be worth some investigation.

What are peoples thoughts on Tom Scully? 202cm 89kg forward/ruck.

Has kicked bags on goals in the SANFL.

Was projected early in the year to be a top 30 pick. Is he one that could slide out to our pick?

Yep Chol had the go home factor, the length of contract & size of contract factor, all of which we couldn't match. Plus he was a free agent.

Folks need to stop bleating about losing him, we COULDN'T STOP HIM FROM GOING. It's time to move on.

Doesn't seem to have to many people saying he's a top 36 pick which is the end of the second round.

Possibility our first pick drops from 53 to 45-48 range with Brisbane using a few picks for Ashcroft and maybe someone else smokes a couple for someone else - Davey? So Scully might still be there at our first pick.

I don’t think that is right. Chol seemed very happy at Richmond. But Balmy talked about the possibility of his moving on some time before the end of the season.
There seemed to be a preference for keeping CCJ, but that plan fell after CCJ made plans to leave as well.
We lost both, which led to serious midfield problems after Ivan’s injury.

He will be there for our picks. He is worth a punt. One of Lemmey or Scully with our picks.

He kicked 50 goals in the under 18s but hasn't really been tested at the higher levels, I think he's a bit riskier than Lemmey who has some form against the bigger bodies, albeit last year. Contested marking was a feature, 2.7 a game, my only concern is a red hot start to the year didn't translate to a full quota of state games and his form tailed off towards the end of the year. I guess if Lemmey is off the board he's next in line.

Everything TT33 said was correct, definitely his choice to go, the club certainly didn’t shop him around or show him the door. His family live only 70km from Metricon so it was simply an offer too good to refuse when you weigh it all up and good luck to him. Saints also made an offer.

Agree, Mabs had a good season this year, good luck to him. He was never going be an adequate replacement for Lynch and Riewoldt, we move on.

I’m not buying into the “we should have held onto Chol” narrative
He was ordinary. Non competitive and at times disinterested. Never forget his final against Brisbane.
Putrid.
Glad he’s doing well at Brisbane but not my idea of a Richmond footballer.
