2022 Draft Thread

Jackson callow was favoured by a few on here in his draft year. Would anyone take him as a late or rookie pick? I know depth for depth sake is not a good strategy. I’d like to hear you thoughts @bullus_hit
I am no expert with draftees etc & lean on those in here that are, but i'd say no if it's a "because they fill a need" pick. U can end up with list cloggers very easily doing that.

Everything TT33 said was correct, definitely his choice to go, the club certainly didn’t shop him around or show him the door. His family live only 70km from Metricon so it was simply an offer too good to refuse when you weigh it all up and good luck to him. Saints also made an offer.

He was out of contract and a free agent, and seemed to be happy at Punt Road. Are you saying he was offered a new contract? Maybe he was but as I said Balmy earlier indicated a different view.
CCJ was certainly made such an offer but I havn’t seen any media reporting that suggests that Marbiol was also.

Exactly my point.
Very few young talls available with records sufficiently advanced to think that any with proven ability, will be on the board at our first pick.
A mature young tall well known to us all would be as good as we could hope for.
For the same reason I also think our recruiting team will leave two selections open for the mid year draft.
We would then be better equipped to get it right.
(Ask Zipper).
I don't mind this play. There will be player(s) dominating State leagues next yr that barely anyone has heard of at this point in time.

Yep Chol had the go home factor, the length of contract & size of contract factor, all of which we couldn't match. Plus he was a free agent.

Folks need to stop bleating about losing him, we COULDN'T STOP HIM FROM GOING. It's time to move on.
I also recall when he was with us that posters were calling for him to go after his lack of 2nd efforts in the games he played at snr level. He was good this yr & good on him, now he's got to back that up as King is back so he'll be up against Casboult for that 2nd spot again.

I’m not buying into the “we should have held onto Chol” narrative
He was ordinary. Non competitive and at times disinterested. Never forget his final against Brisbane.
Putrid.
Glad he’s doing well at Brisbane but not my idea of a Richmond footballer.
Agree

Im Happy to see Chol doing well and really couldnt give a fyling F what CCj does and wouldnt surprise me to see him out of the game in 3 years time with Clarko coming in as coach (I liked him as a junior but really has not dveloped to become the dominant big man he projected).

Happy both have been moved on and we got decent compo for both whilst saving $900k in 2022 in cap space

WA experts and others, thoughts on Jed Hagen?

Watched him live and closely several times over 4 years

The closest thing to liam baker since liam baker.

Been AA every year since he was 13, once at double bottom age.

Ultra competitive, runs all day, great overhead, kicks goals, 175

I rate him a first round talent comfortably, but his height may see him slide a bit, though i doubt it.

Any pre phantom drafters who rate him better reach, cause GC will be paying overs

Doesn't seem to have to many people saying he's a top 36 pick which is the end of the second round.

Possibility our first pick drops from 53 to 45-48 range with Brisbane using a few picks for Ashcroft and maybe someone else smokes a couple for someone else - Davey? So Scully might still be there at our first pick.

Was definitely rated as a top draft prospect at the start of the year.

He kicked 50 goals in the under 18s but hasn't really been tested at the higher levels, I think he's a bit riskier than Lemmey who has some form against the bigger bodies, albeit last year. Contested marking was a feature, 2.7 a game, my only concern is a red hot start to the year didn't translate to a full quota of state games and his form tailed off towards the end of the year. I guess if Lemmey is off the board he's next in line.
Still a baby BH. Not 18 until November. This probably is why he tapered off.

A good long term prospect to take the punt on with our pick.

Most articles suggest we wanted to keep him, including this one with a direct quote from Balme so not sure what Balme quotes you are attributing to him.

Most reports had that we wanted to keep him, but knew we couldn't offer the same sort of money that the Suns were. More money, longer contract, close to family, you can see why he left.

If you had the option - Scully or Lemmey?
Lemmey, showed so much last year. But Scully is young and still growing and hasn't been exposed to elite pathways, huge upside.

They are both risky and I wouldn't mind if you took both, to be honest. Hope you got one right.

Thanks Posh.
The message from Balmy was via live media. Not sure which one. Possibly the Richo podcast and it came early.
It suggested an oversupply of rucks and that there would be a change.
Certainly the message was different after CCJ committed to seek a transfer to NM but I remember Balmy’s message because at the time I thought we were backing the wrong horse.

Was a gun in his underage year but not as prominent this year. Similar to Sonsie. Not sure if injuries, tanking for West C or just a drop in form is the reason

Yep I would be inclined to take the punt on both.

At our picks its a low risk / high reward scenario.

I just had a quick look at his VFL numbers & they are decent, not sure what's going on at Essendon, seems to be a hasty delisting, he's filled out pretty well, did ok against Richmond ressies too. I have no idea as to why he got the chop, might be worth some investigation.

Ely Smith, another one delisted from lions remember people wanted him draft night.

Agree, if we can take Lemmey and Scully with those picks, they will be good choices. Both were very highly rated and have slid, and definitely fill our list deficiencies.

Lemmey & Scully with a project ruck/forward in the rookie draft. Knobel, Verrall, Northam all in the frame.

Ted Clohesy anyone? Seems to be slipping under the radar but his contested game is approaching beast mode, twice he racked up 20 contested possessions in the NAB league, his VFL game yielded 15 touches & a goal & his state form solid with 17 touches, 8 tackles & a goal in his 3 appearances.
