Freo suffered a little from being just behind West Coast in the order so missed out on a couple of the best WA talents in Allan & Davis. The other that was available, Gerryn, really wasn’t a list need. So instead they went for some Victorians, all of whom could be anything (or nothing). Hotton is well worth the (injury) risk at this range and Ough could shape as one of the bargains of this draft. McKenzie is quite inconsistent, kicking some big bags, but also having some games where he was barely sighted. His chances may depend on if he grows a bit, 192cm is a bit of an inbetween size.
Overall a pretty good draft for a team that traded out significant capital during trade week.

Essendon are thrilled with this draft and have selected the players that will take us to our next finals loss.
We wanted to get kids who already had full lives and had achieved great things, because we believe that will stand them in good stead as they suffer crushing disappointment just being selected by the EFC.
We looked for good sports who can shake off a defeat and lavgh with their opposition. The future looks bright with this draft crop, who werent even in nappies when essendon were any good.

Charlie Nicholls - big fast tall forward. Lot of key attributes and a lot of development ahead. One of those talls that will prosper in a pro club. Sadly he,s at arsendon. Will partner well with Caddy.

Clancy Dennis - key back who will be the backline general. Competitor.

Tom Gillett is a ruck and a smooth mover. He's a Lions academy but they're too full with ashcroft and marshall.
And Nash King, a running midfielder. Played Metro. Gets plenty of it. Still to fill out and will become a solid depth midfielder

With a dearth of flair and an oversupply of "vanilla" players, the Aints are after class and got that in Reid (8), & Lindsay (9).
Gerreyn (33) will be the perfect foil for Marshall, he can genuinely play both ruck & forward and fits a need. Given hes a big body that is sorted from the start, the greatest hurdle will be working on his tank which will come with time.
Davidson at (45) some have criticised, I think he has the tools to make it at the next level immediately, great tank, good hands, balance, and a good kick at vfl level. Kicks goals and will be a wingman at afl level.
Cole (46) we see as a modern Mal Michael archetype. A strong and old school shut down full back, fits a need and may not take long before he dips his toe into the highest level.
Rome Burgoyne is apparently not set to join his brother at Port as a father son, if not we're wrapped to nab him. The Aints believe he has all the tools and while his development is lagging as was his older brother Jase, we see that as no barrier long term. A slow burn but its hoped he will be a long term player.

I'm still working my board. I've settled on my top 5 and that's the quintet I had a few months ago. But I had to reconsider it.

Loved the post, but you've actually picked really well there. Need more tanking of picks.
If we slid back from those picks that will end up in the late 20's and nab Nicholls and Boxshall and add a whole bunch of 2nds next year I'd be happy with those 2. Add in a few others like Gerryn, Sims, Unwin, Hayes and any of that group I'd be happy to have slid back for and then bought up a lot of draft capital for next year.

Arse about, went tall late instead of earlier. Oh and I wouldn't have relisted that dud Francis as a rookie.
Charlie West is a good player in a major position of need at Collingwood. He's under rated IMO. Tall enough, skills are okay but he's strong, very quick, athletic, and has played footy on all 3 lines, including regularly pinch hitting in the ruck at school and club level (such is his stregth, leap and competitieness). He actually debuted for his school in first 18's in the Ruck as a Year 10. Really good kid too.
His contested marking is A grade, I reckon if he grows 3cm to 198cm then he becomes a legitimate ruck option. His leap is excellent and like you said, he's a real competitor. I think Collingwood did really well given their weak draft hand, just goes to show the exceptional depth of this year's crop.
Agree with all that but he won't grow any more. He's been that height for 3 years. Was a very early developer.

The swans didnt really go as expected, questionable talls at both ends esp in the GF and they pick a mixed bag. Notably Riak Andrew is only 193 so is more a Rampe replacement than a key back (Rampe plays undersized mostly but is best as 3rd def)
