2025 Draft ThRead

Watching the Merto v Country game , I think the next Duursma may be the best , fair chance his an early pick
Word was hes the best of them.

Bit like the Cloes with the youngest being the best player and the oppositie of the Danihers

I see Derek Hine has left Collingwood, I wonder if we will look at him as a replacement for CT as head recruiter in 2025 ?

Interesting move by the Leppitsch. Been near the top of his profession for a long time.

Rumours are Leppitsch in his role as list manager during the trade period was very painful to deal with.

Just because someone has excelled in coaching doesn't necessarily mean success in other areas, particularly when it comes to maintaining relationships with other list managers during tense negotiations.

Is Hine really all that good ?

Blessed in recent years with FS options galore - Moore & the Daicos brothers - then otherwise, hasn't really done much since the Pendlebury & Thomas years.

I dunno. I think he's just average. Outside of those FS picks, his drafting the last 10 years or so hasn't been anything to write home about I don't reckon.

Think people might be confusing their FA success with their drafting success.

Wouldn’t be against it either. The Pies have never really had strong hands at the draft table.

Yes it mentioned in the article that Leppitsch and Hine didn’t get on apparently

WC replacing their recruiting team, some been employed for 30+ years.
Collingwood moving on Hine.

Its a young man's game.
Its good to have a Francis Jackson as a wise mentor, but lets keep the younger approach going.

Wells is old too. Age doesn’t matter as long as your good at what you do.

Is It improbable that Blair might like to continue?
With due respect to Blair i don't think he's a junior recruiter.
This years draft was based all on Toce's work imo with abit of help from FJ and the rest of the crew.
List management is Blairs strength.

I take your point, and I know u don't mean that the priority given to each selection should be left to a junior recruiter.

In his post draft interview and from the Cal reconstruction piece
it was apparant that in this draft the old priority list approach gave way to a more strategic way of thinking. Had to happen in any event given the hand we held.

Recruitment and list management in the hands of one individual may seem radical. But from what we can tell at this point, modest guy and team man Blair did a great job of it.

Blair was Ports head recruiter for 5 years before coming to the Tigers ,he had a good reputation as a junior scout,,but yeah l don't think he will want to do both jobs.

I had a look at the 2025 potential draft crop in a couple of articles and there doesn’t seem to be many (if any) indigenous players projected at the top end then as well.

I wonder what has happened? Is there a drop off of participation by indigenous kids?

I thought I'd reply to this post from the MRJ thread here.

Anyone know if Indigenous communities were disproportionately affected by the pandemic? Next year's draftees would've been 12-14yo at the time.

When the upcoming draft's kids began under 15's/16's, they would've been the least prepared batch of kids in history, so the next couple of drafts might reflect differences in how the pandemic affected development in various ways.

The next couple of drafts in particular will feature kids who lacked development and experience between ages 10-13 or so - some with a more delayed return to normalcy than others
