2025 VFL Signings

It's a great sign that players who were touted as being drafted are choosing our vfl program over others, they obviously know our recent history speaks for itself.

There is an opportunity for them Toothless.

When you look at our situation we have a few guys who are probably playing for their careers in 2025 and we have 2 first round picks and then only later picks in the draft. We are also likely to have a very early pick in the MSD if we have injured players.

Will Dow, McIntosh, Sonsie, Tresize, Smith, Green, Clarke and maybe Prestia all be on our 2026 list ? Probably not = opportunity.

If a mid burns up the VFL for us they get to make their case for the MSD. I can’t see us picking a tall in that draft.

Yep, its why I,d like to see some mids signed up for our VFL.
I like signing on the young blokes who didn't get drafted, esp Haeata but its hard for an 18yo to get a game to impress. They arent full time so are at a disadvantage in strength and fitness.

Lets sign up some 20-22yo mids

With such a young team this year since we picked up eight kids I think we need to have some seasoned campaigners as top up VFL players

Another practice match announced:

Saturday, March 8
Richmond vs Coburg (Swinburne Centre, 2:00pm)

Sam Toner the interesting one, kicked 50 goals for Narre then played 4 Coates games for 10 goals before getting injured. 184cm forward.

Tall wingman/forward Seth Macdonald was another who showed his quality in the back-end of the season,
189cm

A write up of his best game last year
Stats: 14 disposals, 3 marks, 4 goals

Clearly his side’s strongest performer, MacDonald was a spark in Eastern’s front half across all four quarters, finishing with four majors to his name. MacDonald worked hard up the ground to present as a link-up option for his side coming out of defence, able to lose his opponent through constant movement to win ball essentially uncontested and keep his side moving forward. MacDonald made sure everyone at the game knew what he could do aerially though, getting onto opponents shoulders multiple times through the game. MacDonald was good when Gippsland won the ball inside his 50 as well, putting in hard efforts to lay tackles or pressure opposition as they disposed of it.
