Be interesting to compare MSD and how it shapes up to national draft picks over 40 (or even 30) and also rookie draft picks.
Especially (and have posted reasons believe why) as the MSD success rate has improved recently.
We need mids even more. For that matter a proper ruckman.
This year was all about playing Balta in defense if i remember correctly. Im pretty sure when sims and Nankervis are fit he will be playing in defense.
Yes we have TALL BACKMEN we can play and we actually have some ruckmen we can play ffs how often does it have to be spelled out this year has absolutely nothing to do with winning games . Yes nice if we do win a few. Another week of OHB is not going to kill us and Nankervis is a test this week.
How much longer is Balta playing SECOND Ruck.
Gibcus, Trainor, Balta, Miller, Gray, all available next year yes Annand rounds the tall defenders out but atm it neither here nor there.
If Annand is best available im okay with it but he sure as hell is not the most needed.
Mids are badly needed and come seasons end most likely even more badly needed.
You carry on about a few extra picks in the msd but the mid count at WCE is very close to where we need to get ours.
We aren't just a little bit behind them in numbers but miles and the vast majority of their mids have been taken outside of msd or the extra picks they were given.
How naieve the Eagles see a need to keep adding mids despite having probably enough as it is yet here we are terribly short on for them and we continue to take talls.
Im not "carrying on about a few extra picks in the msd" at all, I'm saying that the AFL allowing them 4 extra rookie spots enables them to load up on extra mids.
Not that hard to understand really.

Knowing that in the next year or two, teams will be able to trade national draft picks for MSD picks. Apparently a club was ready to offer us a second round pick for our MSD pick 2 if trading was in place.
Who here does that swap?

Hahaha you don't even know who they signed with their extra rookie spots. They were all mids, That they play Murdock a bit further forward doesn't take away he was a mid.

Tell us again how they didn't load up on mids? Were the above just very undersized KP players?
I won't comment on the abuse as that wasn't me, but the 4 they signed were all mids, where they decide to play them depends where they best fit in at the next level up. Kane Lambert was also a pure inside mid at VFL level but didn't play there for us, was a linkman in the same way that we now use Campbell.
Herbert for example, where does he play at the next level? May not end up playing through the midfield, could be a HBF or a HFF like Murdock is being played. Schoenberg has played on the wing for them.
Onto our decision to take Annand, the Sydney game shows how short we were down back. We basically had 1 KPD to go with their 3 pronged talls, sure we moved Balta back in the end, but we seem to want to play him more forward now (going back to what Yze wanted when he 1st signed with us) which I'm open to, Balta has shown hsi skills there, I did like him as a back, I can see his value in the ruck / forward line too, so if we take him out of the backline, we've lost Gray and Gibcus to injury, really only leaving us Miller as a KPD, sure we have Trainor, but thats just because he's tall, from a role perspective he plays a similar role to Vlastuin (a taller version), so I think we were in desperate need of another KPD.
I would like to see us be given more rookie spots (I've been vocal on that for a few years now that the rules are too static) which would enable us to take more chances on players from state leagues and if thats what the criteria is for those extra spots, I'd be ok with that, Ie we have to take them from the state leagues, that would be ok with me. There are diamonds in the rough there for sure, so the AFL should give us more opportunities to find them.
