Victorian teams will go under, it is inevitable. The aim is not to prevent it, it is to make sure it happens to someone else.
Clubs like the Bulldogs and the Kangas are addicted to AFL support, without it they fall over. Inevitably the AFL will push them interstate. The ultimatum will be a simple one: "Stay in Melb and we will cut off your allowance, go to wherever we want and we will double it."
That is why RFC haven't held their hands out and why Carlton are giving up an asset to the AFL instead of asking for cash- to stay in Melbourne when the inevitable happens. Make no mistake, this is a handout, without strings attached. We need one of these too.
When the Kangas and the Bulldogs go, we should welcome it. It will mean more sponsorship dollars, more supporters and hopefully some success on the field for the remaining clubs in Melb. It is hard enough to compete with the WA and SA teams with all their advantages as it is, without having to share local sponsors and local supporters with these dead ducks.
