Its been a while since i ahve written. Some people may remember even some richmond footballers and the crazy aussie who went to thailand to train. Well i went three times.

I know i had promised to get my site up and running to show everything pics, training and fights but its still in the making. I have been busy with work, and other things.

aka waiting for tonight.

I couldnt remember my password so i had to start all over again and thought well , waiting is fine, cause i am still waiting for so may things from the club and players for the last two decades.

The reason for this topic.

I have been reading and i have watched the three games to date and have things close to my chest and discussing my personal views on where we are headed as a club , the futures of some players, the coach etc.

After i saw the movie "300" it got me thinking and being a strong believer in many of principles underlying in the film and being of same background i thought well i just have to say something.

The principles i will discuss please feel free to add or be critical. Constructive critical analysis i am all for it.

UNITY- Three hundred men took on an army of many thousands. The reason is that there was a plan thought up and adhered to. Strength in numbers, even though they were out numbered showed what can be achieved. If one of the soldiers didnt adhere to this then it would have put others lives at risk.

In football terms unity starts from the president, coach, players and all the support cast. I dont believe we have the right president or coach but remember this is my opinion only. There is no unity out on the field. This has been an issue for us true supporters who have suffered for two decades , with only two final apperances, the most under achieved victorian club, for a long time. When we are in front of sides we dont deliver the knockout blow, we allow sides to see a weakness and always know that they can come back from really any deficit because we are mentally fragile to stand up as a unit.

STRENGTH- Strength to me not only means a physical attribute but as i have noted above a mental toughness that comes from being down the bottom for too long and wanting to fight.

The soldiers in 300 showed what strength is. They in fact from the leader actually thrived each occassion they came up against, even till the end. With honour.

This is something that hurts me deeply. The fact do these current players play with any pride of the jumper, the colors and the club.?

COMRAD/MATESHIP- How evident is this in the film. "A force strong together is an force that cannot be broken or moved". They fought for honour, for their country, for their state(sparta) and one which many forget , EACHOTHER. How many times can you say this about the players at the club. Is there mateship? Is there any comradeship? I doubt and it is evident and how they crumble when challenged and how they refuse to fight a game out.

LEADERSHIP- Can you question the leadership of the Spartans? What a leader. Could we do we someone like him and many others in our side. As i said earlier leadership starts from the top.

Example which i have read and been said many times by Terry,' THAT the players dont adhere to his instructions" How many times have we heard this ? My question if as a coach your instructions are not being carried out what would you do? I for one have a low tolerance level, and dont accept mediocrity well, especially if i am not being listened to. If i was coach and a player(s) didnt follow my instructions , one warning, next one , no matter who you are you will not play in the seniors till you are prepared to do so and if you continue to do wrong , well i dont want you at the club. What would have happened if the spartan soldiers didnt listen to their leader(coach) and captain, we know what would have happened.

A captain i believe has many attributes i would consider worthy. Inspirational, courageous, tough, game breaker, and have that fear factor installed which players wouldnt want to do wrong by.

Dont get me wrong here, obviously Kane was appointed the leader, captain of this great club by his peers etc, bla bla bla, BUT i dont feel he is good enough in this role. He was good at the crows because look at what soldiers he had around him. He makes too many skill errors for mine, just doesnt do enough. He is not a midfielder for mine , so what do you do.? Where do we play him? Half back, wing? half forward?

For mine we have a natural leader who if not appointed next year will not be at the club past his current contract. This player hates losing and has the attributes you need from a leader. Do i need to mention his name?

If Terrys message is not getting across well he has to take a look at himself. He has been out coached, out thought of, badly beaten with strange moves and a game plan without any cohesion any plan. What is our game plan? Dont be there for the money because history will not be pretty for Terry Wallace.

CAUSE- What is our cause? Every year i hear crap, bla bla bla that it just makes me sick. Do they want to play finals, do they want to be good players or just average? The 300 soldiers had a cause and even though in the end they lost their lives , they didnt lose their dignity, respect amongst their fellow comrads(players) and their country(supporters) because in standing up for a cause they saved Greece and inspired others after their death to fight.

COURAGE- " Courage isnt manufactured but born of" Can you question the spartans courage? How many players at our club do you see time and time again not have the courage to go for the ball, attack the player. How many do you see that take the easy option? I know you either have it or you dont. But let me tell you the one thing that hurts the most is when i see a player side step or go in only to protect themselves. We know who they are. You may all argue that you cant have every player on your list this way. My reply the successful teams who win premierships have many of these player(these spartan types) starting from coach to captain.

Its good to be back and i hope sooner rather than later you can all have a look at the site that is in progress of my time away training in thailand.

I love the tigers

Waiting:

"In football terms unity starts from the president, coach, players and all the support cast."

-------------------------

It would be good if footy clubs thought with their brains sometimes when hiring people for specific jobs.

Although there might be more "unity" than one would hope for.... in some respects...

Get on with the job TIGERS, the winning job from the Top down... ;D :scold ;)

Oh, and good post waiting... I recall reading some of your posts regarding thailand.

Of course, it helped that the 300 were all psychopaths and sociopaths who wanted to skewer all their enemies for fun and actually wanted to die.

Can't see it working on a footy field. Not in this age of dozens of cameras and KB's Rules Committee.

Fair enough but why is the film called 300. They had those other blokes along to help - how many of them were there?

And that they were trained from birth to fight and die, compared to fighting against slaves.

I admire the 300 Spartans, but I think the metaphor is being stretched just a touch.

(The 300 did also have the help of around 7000 other Greeks, including Arcadians & Corinthians according to historians)

Those other blokes also happened to bugger off at a crucial stage. Perhaps that's why they don't rate a mention in the title. Don't think "300. Oh yeah, and a few thousand other blokes who buggered off when the going got tough" has the same ring to it.

It well be a movie but its based on historical writings of those whose witnessed and of those who were inspired by the 300 and fought and defeated the Persians.

Yes there were others but as said by 'braddles' the rest chose to flee when push came to shove.

I am just using a metaphor here as history can teach us lessons for the present and future.

When its movie i agree and never get too carried away but these are the movies i love not because of my background. Yes i am proud of it but that is in the past. They havent done too much lately for thousand years after those days to be proud of to much.

Sometimes we can learn alot thats all !

Its just i would love alot of these qualities to come out in the current players which has been lacking for over two decades apart from two years. Not good enough. The tigers of old the 60's 70's and early 80's were sides that when i watch replays i loved the way they went about it. I dont condone voilence on the field or off it just because i love the movie or because i love the physical sports , i JUST want a hard , tough approach from our players and if they dont want that side of the game or in some cases which certain players shirk the issue well that to me isnt good enough.

I would rather have a side built around 300 knowing when i go into battle i will be protected as much as i protect. Which of our players puts the fear of god into any opposition sides? NONE

Thanks for all your comments now to another post that got up my nose last night.

Stay tunned !

Yeah they should hey.

They look like west coast players after Mick was their coach and over summer had beefed up (which cant be done without some help)

thanks
