As Matty White's proud VP I'm really happy to read all the positive reports about him in regard to training and the Ballarat game.

I'm glad he's got #35 when he shows such a good attitude and determined work rate.

I know a number's just a number but Bondy was my favourite player and to me gave certain expectations when I see the number out there.  Newmo certainly did it proud too.

We all thought trading Bondy was the best thing but in hindsight, apart from his value as a trade, I doubt Otto contributed a whole lot more to our future than keeping Chris would have done.

There's no doubt Bondy would have given 100% in every game he played, something that's a tad questionable about Otto, and the spare change we had could have been spent on other players for the future (now)

No matter what Matty's career has ahead he's shown the right determination to give it everything he's got.  That's what #35 is about to me.

I'd be interested to know who else has worn #35 in our history?

Otto had a good 2001 and contributed Meyer and Pattison to our list.

if those two meet expectations then the Bond trade will be good.

Dunc replaced Bondy.  Now they're both my equal top favourites.well throw in Andy K too.  :inlove :inlove :inlove

I wasn't meaning to question the trade DDT, too many hypotheticals to ever know what would have bene best, but as a player Otto didn't live up to our early expectations.  I have his jumper somewhere on the bottom of my wardrobe floor as testimony to that. ;D

I hope your spot on with this one rosy, you can have all the skill flair and ability in the world but in the end of the day to really make it u need the determination desire and the right attitude. Matty,s certainly starting of on the right foot. Good luck son :clap

ian herman is easily the best player to don the #35 in rfc history

Ummm, Ian Herman wore no. 36 LaB.

Other players to wear no 35 in the past include Michael Pickering, John Rombotis, Peter Laughlin and Noel Mugavin (uncle of Jonathon Brown).
From memory Jay Burton (brother of Spider Burton ex Freo and North also wore 35 but didn't play a senior game.

I really used to like Michael Pickering.Seems that I'm one of only a few who did

Great overhead for bloke of his size.

Pickering was a good player. Trouble was the because we had no stars, he carried the can as far as expectations go. He should have been allowed to be what he was, a good mid-size player who played tall. He took the most or second most marks in the league one year I think.

Intersting benchmark for Pettifer types.

MP wasn't very athletic- not that quick or nimble but he had outstanding hands and a footy brain to reckon with.

Agree guys, Pickers was a good player. Fantastic mark for his size and did well as the 3rd tall in the forward line.
Lacked a yard of pace, but gee he was an honest player.
I'll never forget the game when KB played him at full back on Minton-Connell against the Blues at Optus oval, MC kicked 3-4 in the first 15 minutes before KB realised he was way too slow to play FB.

Ended up being traded to the Dees, but his best footy was behind him then and from memory his back was rooted.

Ahhhh Michael Pickering...

yeah was unfairly maligned, he was a player doin his best & got the most out of himself hoever cos we were so *smile* he copped it.

was a very good consistent player over a decent period of time.

always used to check the stats in sundays paper to see how many marks he'd rake in.

I rated Pickers, in a poor era along with Hoggy he was one of our forwars who were cruificed by a poor side.

Great mark for his size but was very one paced. Went to MElbourne and was never the same, did well to get something for him. WHat did we get? Not Strawbs??

Strawbs and Chris Sullivan :hihi No I dont remember to be honest. Someone here will though.

I am with you guys, I also rated Pickers highly. Could have quoted any of the above posts and agreed with nearly all of them word for word.
He was gutsy too. ;)

I think it was Justin Pickering who had the bad back. I think they both went on to play at Frankston in the VFA.

I liked him a lot. Agree with others that he had the misfortune to carry too much burden when our teams were really sub standard. He would have had a very good career in a strong team.
