I recently received the RFC's 84th Annual Report, the one for the year 1968 - yes, the mail can take some time to arrive, but that's another story.
Anyway, there were a couple of items contained therein that I thought would appeal to the general Richmond public. I quote from the document:
1. ... "our combined membership was the biggest in the League, whilst for the third successive season the Tigers were the top drawcard, attracting 133,386 patrons more than our nearest rival".
... Just goes to show how big we were and, more significantly, what a legacy we blew in the 80s.
2. And this interests me more... "As a means of utilising portion of accrued club funds to our last best advantage, the Committee purchased 16 acres of land at Torquay for the development of a permanent training camp for players."
... Now this sounds like a great idea to me. A 16-acre training facility back in the 60s? My question is: whatever happened to it??
Ohh, when we were kings...
