Looking at the NAB Cup Record-how is it that Western has
Grant
Smith
West
Darcy
as Veterans----4 in total

Is this right??-I thought it was a max of 2?
Can someone explain the whole veteran status please??
Confused!!

It's is my understanding that Chris Grant & Rohan Smith are their only vets. Although in the AFL Record there are certainly 4 listed.

the rule was changed

now, i understand you can have a combo of 6 rookies and/or vets.

do WBD have just 2 rookies and 4 vets?

we have a vet and 3 rookies

room for two more rookies or 2 more vets or 1 each

Yeah you can have a combination of the 6.  We have 2 vets.  One inside and one outside but they both count as vets.  If we only had one vet we could have nominated a rookie, and if we had the $$, elevated him to the senior list without requiring a long term injury.

Rosy,
With only 37 players (plus 2 vets) can we ellevate a rookie mid season to bring up our list to 38, or do we still have to have a long term injury?

The veteran's rule works like this.

Squad= 38
Vets + rookies= 6. No more than 2 vets outside the squad. This means you can have up to 6 rookies if you have no vets.

Total =44

Bris and Syd can have up to three more rookies for a reason that escapes me, porbably AFL favouritism.

Vets can be inside the salary cap. One of our two is inside the cap so he is listed on the main squad. The bullies have two who are part of their squad. I am not sure if these vets can be elevated onto the vet's list during the season so that a rookie can be elevated onto the main squad. This one is too esoteric.

Rookies can be elevated temporarily if a player goes on the long-term injury list and automatically become rookies again once the player returns.

If the squad is short and only has 37 players, then a rookie can be elevated without the need for another player to go on the injury list. In addition, a rookie can be a nominated rookie and he can step up into this gap at any time. Geelong have a nominated rookie.

The bullodgs have 4 player who qualify as veterans but they have had to choose which two players are listed outside the squad. Obviously, a team could have many more than two vets at any one stage. It just means they can choose who they take out, that's all.

ThanksTot. How do you keep all that in your head? ;D

Simple. Don't ask me to remember to buy milk on the way home tonight because my limited brain cells are all occupied with nonsense like this!

Which in that case for Doggies is fine as i think they only have one rookie who is Davidson from the pies, i remember a supporter coughed up the money out of his own kick to have Davidson put on as a rookie as the dogs couldnt afford one this year.

What constitutes a long term injury by the rules. Eg/ could Chaffey (if he is not right by say week 6 could humm be elevated until he is right? )
