Geez,  talk about confusing.

Started off with 39 players from a maximum of 40.
Roach, Chaffey, Stafford, Kellaway and Rodan gone = 34
Humm was on rookie list at beginning of year.
Howat WILL be promoted = 35
Polak recruited = 36
Therefore one more has to go before list lodgement to get to 35.
My tip is Jackson.
5 places left = 4 national draft picks and one PSD pick.
Graham to stay on rookie list and 3 more rookies (is full quota 4 players? can someone confirm)

Each club is allowed to select a maximum of 6 rookies except Sydeny and Brisbane who can select up to 9 rookies......huge advantage for those 2 clubs and may explain why Sydeny has been prepared to trade early picks in the past!

Taking 6 rookies would mean cutting the senior list to 33 by October 31st.

If I have it right.

33 senior players + 1 rookie = 34,
34 + 4 ND picks + 1 PSD pick + 5 RD picks = the 44 maximum players overall.

That is, if the Club decides to take that route.

If we place Gaspar and Richo on the vets list does that then mean we can only have 4 rookies?
This is something that is not clear.
Does it also mean we can have 2 more on our list - 42?
ie 40 list maximum PLUS 2 vets?
Is 46 the overall maximum of players you can have (40 on list list plus 6 vets/rookies) ?

Can someone confirm ?

I'm pretty sure that 44 is the maximum for all Victorian clubs.

They may have changed the rules recently, anyone absolutely sure?

How can you have 44 if you can have 6 rookies?

38 plus any combo of rookies and vets ( 2 MAX vets) for total up to 6 players for a grand total of 44

Thanks.

If Richo and Gaspar on vets list = 4 rookies.
Therefore as it stands now we have to delist at least 1 more (to get to 35 or below), recruit at least 5 on our list (to get to 40) and recruit 3 more rookies (to get to 4), assuming Graham stays.

Moore has to go, he cleary is the golden child for some reason.

Yet to see him do anything to make methink he belongs. Would not get a game at any of the top 8 sides from 2006.

It's up to clubs whether or not to include vets in the maximum list of 38, i.e. including Gaspar and Richo as vets, we can have 38, 39 or 40 on the senior list; it's our choice.

With the first lodgement of 35 players we also have to nominate which rookies (if any) we are retaining for a second year. Retained rookies (Limbach?) are not included in the 35, however elevated rookies (Howat?) are. Clubs also have to nominate any players they will draft under the father-son rule.

The second lodgement happens mid-November before the national draft; clubs can also delist players at this stage if they want to.

Third and final lodgement occurs early December prior to the pre-season draft; uncontracted players can be delisted here as well.

Since the rookie draft is comprised of players not taken at the national draft, the only reason for taking more than 4 rookies, as opposed to having more than 4 picks at the national draft, would be to take pressure off the club's TPP situation as rookie list payments are not included in the TPP.

Next year the AFL will fund the rookies so everyone can take a full list. PlusThe TPP will increase by a certain percentage.
So in theory, that should mean that most clubs, that aren't close to the maximum TPP, should be able to draft as many as the want (up to the AFL linit. What is that? 8 rounds?) in the ND.
But for some clubs finances may be an issue which affect their number of choices in the ND. For other clubs it might be list management issues.
