80 tackles to 54 tackles

If only it was that simple. We have been crap at this since Northey left!

And during that time we were know for being the hardest tacklers in the game. Even Leigh Matthews said our intensity was above every other team in the comp.

Mark robinson was on the money. "Tackle or die". We died.

I guess Terry didn't stick that article to the dressing room wall.
That article was spot on.

Hadley had 12 tackles for the Blues. They murdered us for pressure.

Some of our guys just don't apply pressure on the ball carrier at alland only get interested when the ball's in their hands.

Most of our serial offenders in this category are senior players!!
Bowden, Brown & Richo had 3 tackles between them for the game.

Out muscled, out pressured, outclassed.

Too late for Terry's Tigers to turn this epidemic arround.

Even if our kicking skills are crap, we should at least be tackling and putting pressure on the other team, then their skills might turn to crap also, instead of letting them set up play with all the time in the world

It's not just the lack of tackles. It's the quality of tackles.

agree. i felt sick in the stomach when one of their first gamers, no 12 for carltank (robinson?) shrugged off a tackle with ease.

We need some sort of Dermot "Line in the Sand" right now, as I am just sick of the tig's being the laughing stock of the AFL.

it would be interesting to know the amount of players we have had suspended since terry took over... and how that compares to other clubs. i couldn't tell you the last time we had a player rubbed out.

what makes it worse is that we were the ones chasing tail all game and carlton still managed to smash us in the tackling department

i thought the same thing

It's not just tackling.

How many shepherds did our team put on the other night for their team mates?
As usual you could count them on one hand.
I think I saw one from Cousins and that was about it!!

Our team's work ethic without the football is shithouse. Has been since forever under Wallet.

Totally agree.

You don't become a good team without having these aspects and we don't. Under Wallace we never have and never will and thats why he needs to go and go now.

The players have no aspect of team game. Where is the sheperds? Where is the talking? Where is the tackling and repeat tackling?

Mate when I played a coach would have us line up in two lines, then the front two would compete, the coach would throw the ball around and you did everything to get the ball back to the coach. I don't think these blokes do any competitive work at all.

We are not a team, just a bunch of individual dimwits.

The odd thing is that Wallace's bulldogs were a pack of bloodthirsty mongrels.

They had a reputation of being ruthless, from sledging to the physical stuff.

It's mystifying.

There must be some sort of depressent in the water pipes at punt road. They should conduct a full hygene insepction of the joint and "eliminate all the germs"

I reckon that had faded by the end of his tenure there though.

Personally, I wouldn't go overboard with the tackles line.

The Team stats for tackles on the weekend were:
1. Carlton 82
2. StKilda 74
3. Magpies 71
4. Brissie 67
5. Dockers 65
6. Bombers 62
7. Hawks 62
8. Melbourne 62
9. Kangaroos 60
10. Sydney 57
11. Geelong 56
12. Tigers 54
13. Bulldogs 49
14. Power 46
15. Crows 44
16. Eagles 32

Our tackling wasn't great but it was fairly average, which was better than our result.

Only 3 of the top 8 in tackles actually won their games.

Actually, 3 of the bottom 4 in tackles won theirs.

I wouldn't have expected those stats. Quite surprising actually.

Maybe it's more the type of tackling we did, or rather what appeared to be a distinct lack of pressure compared to their high intensity - those first four goals we literally gave them probably hightened this in them. Really handed it to them on a platter and played them into form. I wasn't overly impressed with their skill level but when they sensed our fear, they really went for the kill. We were like a little kid trying to hold the tide back with a bucket. (I've run out of cliches)

was it the Freo pre season game where our tackling intensity won the game for us after being down a number of goals. I said to my BIL before the game that it had since dissapeared but that I fully expected wallace the cunning rat to bring it back for the Carlton match. I must be smarter than Wallace!

I wonder if the players have been instructed not to read the newspapers this year, or if they are left to make a decision themselves? That prediction was too uncanny.

You need to break the tackle count in two distinct groups, TACKLES and CUDDLES.

I'll bet not too many of our tackles result in the opponent on the ground and ball dislodged >:(. That is the difference between a tackle and cuddle
