so who did it? CIA operatives working for the Global Jewish Conspiracy in conjunction with the UN and the Rank Corporation with the aim of raising Frozen Orange Juice Concentrate prices so these profits can be used to promote the selling of arms to counter revolutionaries in Iran?

Generally the simplest explanation is usually the one that holds true, and every nut bag conspiracy theory I have heard is so overblown, even the German dude from Die Hard would struggle to keep up.

Pork bellies, actually.

NASA did it - apparently there were secret videotapes showing the Moon Landings were faked and 9/11 was intended as a distraction while they ritually burnt the tapes in Times Square.

I just wonder if today will sometime become a public holiday for the US. They can't stop talking about it.

Next year makes 10th anniversary.

You can argue policies, complicity etc but 9/11 affected a lot of Americans. A lot of New Yorkers know someone they lost. They weren't soldiers, just people doing their desk job.

Does the media (TV, radio and newspapers) still bring this to the forefront or has it been fading out as years go by?

I remember at the time doing some frightening calculations about the scale of the attack on the twin towers. Firstly that two two towers were so big that combined they had a population over 90,000 people - the size of one and a half times the population of Ballarat at that time. It was amazing that the loss of life was not much greater.
And secondly if the total office floor area was lost from the city of Melbourne - we would have lost our 16 largest office towers. This would have left our skyline resembling something from the late 1960s.

Been talking to my daughters about this this week. They are 11 and 13.

I was telling them that there will be events in your life where you will always remember them clear as day and remember what you were doing at the time.

I was in the UK when 9/11 happened and watched it in real time, still one of the most horrifying things to watch in real time. From flashing over from watching Neighbours (yes I was a massive saddo back then haha) to breaking news reports where the newscasters were unaware at the initial time what had occurred. When the North Tower was hit, they didn't know what happened, just there was a fire in the Tower and some unconfirmed reports of a plane hitting the tower, to then watching the 2nd plane come into vision and turn into the tower. It was at that point that you knew you were watching something that would change the world.

Even watching all of that, there was never any expectation that the towers would collapse, to then see them go was shocking.

I think they both held about 18,000 each at full occupancy but given the morning time, the mayoral election on at the time and the fact Monday Night Football involving the NY Giants was on the night before, both towers were only at about half occupancy when the planes hit.

2606 people lost their lives in both towers including first responders, and 2977 in total on the day, including the Pentagon and Pennsylvania plane attacks. Another 6,000 injured and it’s estimated a near 3,000 further deaths attributable to post attack health issues.

I remember it vividly. Switched the TV onto a news channel just by chance. Reckon it was 11pm Melbourne time. Saw the towers burning and actually thought it was a movie. Then I saw the first tower collapse.

I’ve watched the first 2 episodes of Turning Point on Netflix. Brilliant but also haunting and harrowing.

The thing that always sticks in my mind was the crystal clear, cloudless sky. Sun beaming off the buildings and New York Bay and Hudson River. A heap of New Yorkers say the same thing - how spectacular the day was before everything turned to a nightmare.

Know that area of Manhattan really well. All the streets running off and along the WTC site. Liberty, Church, Vesey, Cortland, West Highway etc etc. A number of bars and places used post the disaster for responders. The stories I’ve heard from New Yorkers. So sad. It’s a humming area again now but with a strange and vacant tinge. The enormity is hard to gather when you’re down there.

Been to it a couple of times, but recommend a visit to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum if you’re ever down there. If you go to the museum, perhaps go with a prepared mindset as it’s pretty heart wrenching.

Still cant believe it was 20yrs ago that same week, my family flew out on that Saturday to France. We nearly cancelled our trip from fear. We 2 kids were in primary school.
First stop over was Singapore. The security was through the roof. Military with M16 automatic guns at every gate with extra police. triple checks before you entered the plane.
Paris, same. 2 cops & 1 military group togerther every 100m circulating the airport. Again checks.
When we left Paris, we headed to Athens 1 week later. Same stilll. Paris airport hadnt changed. To board plane, triple checks but also Greek Secret police do a further check as you were about to board the plane. When we landed in Athens, we heard though there was a bomb scare minutes after we left that airport in our terminal too. Everyone was on edge.
4 weeks later security still same heading back via Singapore. military still in place but not as much at that point in time

something that doesn't get mentioned much is the NOISE it made...
from the planes hitting to the buildings collapsing... it was deafening...

I remember watching CNN. Reporter in the for ground some distance away, you could wee the first tower on fire, second tower not impacted. As he was reporting what was happening in the background I watched a plan appear and hit the second tower.

It was so surreal. I was waiting for the reporter to turn around and see what had happened, but I guess his producers couldn't or didn't feed the news to him. But it didn't seem real because there was no reaction from him. It needed a minute or two before CNN went with it. In the meantime there were dozens of SMS messages flying between friends pretty much all asking if anyone else saw the second tower get hit.

The brother of someone that worked for me was in the Tower 1 and died. This guys utter utter hatred of #troofies and there ilk was very real. he said the pain the WTC conspiracy movement caused affected families was criminal.
