it's a hoax...turn out it's just 10 games over three years

so what?

we play more than 10 home games away from the MCG over three years

(can't believe the Fagies play more home games at the MCG than we do :bash )

I know they go on about the demographics of the Gold Coast etc, but so far the Gold Coast has swallowed up 3 Rugby teams, a Basketball team, the Bears (who would have died if they stayed), and I think a Soccer team: there is not 1 major sport that has gone there and survived. ...... North have always had a savvy administration so what do they think they can achieve that other clubs (even Superleague backed ones) couldnt, and why throw away 4 years of spadework in Canberra (1400 members signed from there) to become a novelty act in a region that is far less fertile soil. They're throwing in the Canberra towel far too early, just like they threw away the investment they made n the Sydney market. So what happens next? In three years time they'll have played their 3 games a year, maybe made some inroads but not much: and decide its not working either. I think this is a disasterous decision based on very short term gains that dont solve the underlying problems. I think things now look very very bleak for the long term future of Nth. IMHO it had to be West Sydney or Canberra based on a 10 year gradual transition/relocation phase.

Great post Spaceman. There seems to be a fair bit of flawed logic at play as far as the Gold Coast is concerned. It seems to be a case of population growth + Victorian "ex pats" = great environment for sport.

Something is missing otherwise one of these franchises would have worked and I suspect it's lifestyle and aging population related.

West Sydney is surely a better option.

I'm inclined to agree TGN. It deserves a lot more consideration than it currently gets.

Rugby League

The first two versions of the GC RL side went broke yes, but the Chargers, the final version were actually profitable when they were killed off. The only reason they were booted was as part of the team cutting deal that saw the ARL and Super League comps merged back into 1.

I believe the Gold Coast Titans will survive & thrive.Rugby League got the jump on the AFL on the Gold Coast & the part time measure of the Kangaroos playing up there will be useless.Mel is right the last league side did not go broke on the Gold Coast.

Almost a certainty MB.

Their timing is right. Broncos on the slide, Lions on the slide. Very good admin, coaching staff and early signings. Will get strong community support if they continue doing things the way they have gone so far.

Its a hard one for the roos. It will be tough to go in cold, especially being a struggling side. If they could merge with Southport sharks somehow, but can't see how it could happen effectively. The Southport Sharks could work and the Goldy would really get behind them, real local club battling the southern powerhouses and all that. They have heaps of dough, great facilities and a great mascot (unlike the titans :P) I agree North should probably have persevered with ACT, no easy solution for them.
