A Darksiders View of the 2006 National Draft

It seems to me there is far too much self-congratulation and pats on the back following the draft on Saturday. All we’ve had is some nonsensical drivel from Tigerforce and Craig has advised ad nauseum that pick 26 was all wrong but even claw and Redford essentially gave the thumbs up.

I say that this is not on – we need more biffo on the forum. So I present the darksiders view of the RFC 2006 draft.

Pick 13 Jack Reiwoldt

Well apparently we were going to take him at 8 so the Polak deal cost us nothing. Perhaps we were even going to take him at pick 1. No doubt whoever we picked at 13 Miller was going to say he was our target at 8 yet the faithful fell over themselves congratulating Miller who himself put it down to luck. Perhaps we should have downgraded 10 spots to 18 as we would have got him there as well.

Apart from having a famous cousin and kicking the odd goal he doesn’t seem to have impressed anyone else. The Doggies were even prepared to pick Everitt junior ahead him which confuses me somewhat. Learned PREnders spruik the gospel of Scott Clayton yet he thought Everitt, slammed by those same learned PRenders was a better bet than Reiwoldt. So not sure where that leaves Reiwoldt – let’s just hope sookiness isn’t a family trait.

Pick 26 Shane Edwards

A lightly built wingmen that impressed in finals in the SANFL. Yep, if you have a feeling of déjà vu it is because the last bloke we picked up with that description was Aaron Fiora. Not exactly the hard bodied in and under type the Tigers desperately need but one Plough unsuccessfully builds teams around. Impressed all at the draft camp which interesting doesn’t actually involve playing any football matches. Did however record the highest vertical leap which should stand him in good stead for the pre season Richmond Olympics.

Pick 58 Daniel Connors

Bargain! Bargain! Bargain! – they all scream. Well, not to any other club as not taken in the previous 57 selections including 3 from Richmond. Great form in the U18 championships but couldn’t get a kick afterwards. Big game player? Perhaps so but if only Richmond could get to actually play in a big game. Should at least be a standout in the Dreamtime match currently Richmond’s only qualification as a game of significance. Shocking draft camp results which all of sudden don’t matter for Connors but interestingly are of vital significance in the coup of drafting Edwards at 26.

Pick 60 Marty McGrath

A real one man human highlights reel who kicked 5 goals on debut. One would have thought McGrath was too old to redraft. Sorry, what’s that you say, it’s not McGrath, oh Carl Peterson. Sorry, let’s start again. Boy you should see the mark this bloke took. What, can’t find it on the video. Nevermind, take our word for it. A gun in the making – Ashley Prescott said so. Yep, that’s good enough for me.

Pick 73 Andrew Collins

Great name – played a cr@p load of games for the Hawks and now coaches our twos. If it is good enough for a Reiwoldt it has to be good enough a multiple premiership player. Seen him play – no don’t need to I tell ya it’s in his name. Yet another super bargain – crikey we should have passed on this pick because I reckon he would have still been there at 84 with all those other drafting clowns around.

Pick 84 Pass

Only passed because Kingsley didn’t nominate for the ND. Possibly Richmond were trying to hide him from the other clubs so he is still available in the PSD. Considering Rodan was picked up perhaps a wise decision by the Richmond brains trust. I’ve trawled through the back blocks of PRE and couldn’t find one positive post about Kingslay while he played for the Cats but he must be gun if Plough wants to take him. I guess Plough has a liking for chest marking limited forwards ever since Minton-Connell blazed his way on to the seen.

Perhaps another kid in the deepest draft ever should have been the go? – don’t be silly did you see Kingsley’s finals series for the Cats. What, it was the VFL. Well that’s just another name for the AFL anyway.

Roll on 2010.

This post was one of the main reasons that jb scored my 3 votes in the PREnder of the month.

Probably the best post I have ever read on this site. :rofl

Well done son, keep up the good work. :fing32
