A-League threads [Merged]

Clearly onside but clearly a penalty on Geria. Some terrible tackles as well. The referee had a stinker. The tackling really is a blight on this league. They need to clamp down on it.

Agree I4, Broxy definitely motm, and having Valeri on the park makes a massive difference. While he did score, Bozanic is still a problem IMO. Will be interesting to see how we set up when Rojas comes back. Hopefully Troisi stays as CAM. He does a lot of little things that don't get noticed but his passing quality is superb and he opens up the play. Like a younger version of Finkler in some ways.

Yeah, but the obstruction on Maxi could have been called a pen as well....

Aleague refereeing is just inconsistent from week to week and ref to ref. It kind of goes from one extreme to another, sometimes trigger-happy handing out cards in the first 15 min and then sometimes not giving them at all. ??

I reckon Troisi as a CAM has been disappointing, and a big reason why we can't seem to hold onto the ball. He did play better in the last 20 minutes though. The other player that did well that hasn't been mentioned was Ingham.

Ingham was very good. I still think we're a better team with Troisi on the park, quality instead of quantity kind of thing..

We played better as the game progressed, including Troisi. I think the ref must have forgotten he had cards. Players were getting multiple warnings including Popovic who was losing it more than Muscat. Mahazi had his obligatory turnover and awful challenge within seconds of coming on - he cant be a sub. Too early too make any jugement on Max. To echo previous comments my 11 yeard old daughter turned to me early in the game and said, we are losing the midfield. Ingham did really well as a sub, great goal. Daughter and her friend were thrilled to get autographs at the after game function including Besart's. It's something the A League does so much better than the AFL.

The post match functions are excellent. There are always players and club officials there (and full strength beer!!). Had photos taken with many players including club royalty such as Carlos, Archie, Leijer, Broxy, even Matty Kemp!!

I remember kicking back and having a beer with Marco Flores one night. Cracking bloke. Shame he was sh!t.

Yeah - he still looks a yard short of pace, but he did put in. The positive sign for his goal was the intelligence to move from the far post position to a more central position for the cut-back pass. That showed good nouse... but then he nearly butchered the goal, hit it too soft but got lucky with it going through the defender's legs and the goalie was too slow to react. But he took the chance.

Tough away trip to Wellington next week who are starting to show that they aren't as bad as early form suggested.

Brace for Rojas playing for NZ yesterday. That's 7 goals in 7 games for club and country. He's in cracking form.

Well it was just New Caledonia... but yeah... Looks like he might challenge Fornarolli for goal scoring honours this season if he keeps it up.

I think we have 5 of our next 7 games in Melbourne so if we get our *smile* together could be good lead in to the second half of the season post-xmas.

I reckon the top 6 is just about decided already. CCM, Newcastle and WSW aren't up to it for mine. Adelaide may recover, but face an ACL campaign later on.

I think we're getting better but still need to find a solution to our midfield issues... after last night, maybe FBK is the answer?

What happened to him between his MV stints?

I think he went to try out in Germany, had a few injuries and then couldn't get many first team opportunities.

Anyway, Perth again showing that they're the perennial pretenders.

Are Sydney FC finally the real deal this year? Looks like six wins from six games.

I still don't think they are :hihi

With all due respect, when you're relying on Matt Simon and Scott Carney to score for you, and the opposition defense is so poor, then no they are not the real deal. Perth is pathetic, Lowe won't see out the season.

he broke his leg in his first preseason with Stuttgart and never really recovered. finally got some continuity last season on loan in Switzerland and was recalled back to Stuttgart for preseason. from there both parties realised things weren't gonna work out, so his contract was mutually terminated and we pounced. he's too good for this league, but being a kiwi limits his options somewhat (i'm sure a richer Asian club would have snapped him up if he was Aussie).

they've had a soft start to the season (have travelled outside of NSW once so far) and took advantage of some bad finishing by us and Perth. I guess you can only beat what's in front of you. they've also been able to play the same 11 for every match, which makes a big difference. I reckon they'll be around the mark come the end of the season but they'll be reigned in sooner rather than later. duds like jurman and grant will be found wanting while Zullo, Wilkinson and brosque will inevitably get injured at some point.
