A-League threads [Merged]

and we got bitten on the bum by our former keeper. theo was brilliant.

Didn't see the game but heard it was very good quality. This season looks like one of those where we are just up and down, we can beat anyone if we play well but we'll miss out on finals.

I'll dive in on Ian's behalf... he left Victory to trial in Europe after he'd had a great season in 2008-09 when Melbourne won the Championship. Got a contract with Norwich City in League One. Unfortunately in his debut game against Colchester he conceded 7 goals, and said he'd had the worst game of his career. The manager was sacked and his contract was not renewed. Came back to Australia and signed for the Roar in March of this year. I think our keeper books were full at the time.

Quality keeper at A-League level. Good shot stopper particular reflex saves, reasonable distribution, his one weakness seems to be hard shots from long range. Having a great year for Roar so far.

it was actually. it was a great game. compared to that snorefest curtain raiser (heart v gold coast). i do enjoy the way brisbane play.

just adding what antman said about theo... he was made a scapegoat at norwich after that 7-1 thrashing and fell out with the new coach. they agreed to mutually terminate the contact after he spent most of the season rotting in their reserves. he ended up signing with brisbane before we sold langerak. i'm sure he'd prefer to be playing with us, but that timing just didn't work out.

Where has Langerak ended up Ian?

borussia dortmund in the german bundesliga. by all reports he's settled in well and is learning the lot. he's the no. 2 keeper at the moment, and will be for a while, but it's no mean feat going from victory to no. 2 at one of the biggest teams in germany.

Anyone heard of the surface disaster at Newcastle?
The North Qld game Saturday night has been cancelled because a motor cross event was held on the ground a couple of weeks ago and the surface is (to quote FFA) "crap".
There's talk of it being re-scheduled as a curtain raiser to Victory/Adelaide.

yeah blame the newcastle knights for this disaster. they run the stadium and can do whatever they like... hence the supercross being held there. hopefully things will change now that nathan tinkler (who is doing a brilliant job and deserves to be congratulated) has taken over as owner of the jets

why sign a contract with etihad when a better stadium is available?

off memory their deal was done prior to AAMI coming along, but Ian or some of the others may remember the timings

yeah we have a deal to play 5 games per year plus all asian champion league games which i believe has another 7 years to run. it was part of the deal to allow the aami park capacity to be increased 31,000 and to also allow victory to play home games and set up their admin and training base there (with the storm). i also believe we are guarenteed a $50,000 profit for games at etihad, irrespective of crowd numbers. there is no such deal in place at aami park afaik.

Melbourne Heart in fine form. Since our great win in the Melbourne derby, where we played Victory off the park that night, we are unbeaten in four, with a draw against Wellington in Wellington.

Good solid performance today, should have won by more, but good to see the young talent coming through so well. Behich has been unreal at left back, Zahra shows signs, Kalmar is a beauty and more still to come.

JVS is managing really well in my opinion, playing the right guys and it looks like the boys are getting the message now and it looks great.

Very good progress made by the club. So far, so good. Not easy to come into a comp, that has the most supported team who has been successful but they have done as good a job as possible.

Can't wait to see Alex Terra back, the guy is a budding superstar in this league.

Go on you Heart boys! :)

good to see you back tigerbob. i hear you're heavilly involved at heart? hopefully your mob get the ticketing right in the next derby coz you really tried your best to screw around with us last time.
