A-League threads [Merged]

gold coast is an absolute shambles. clive palmer is treating it as his little toy at the expense of local fans and the community. when he walks away, the club is a goner imo.

I didn't renew my membership this year because of the woeful fixture with midweek & Sunday games a plenty. I attend the games I can and sit in the beach area but you can almost see the vultures perched on the roof. The club is in dire straits, the 5000 cap is still on and attendance is between 2500 - 3000. The stadium looks like a ghost town with the away goal area vacant. Opposition supporters stuck in a small portion of the stand in the far corner. We will be lucky to go around next year. >:(
The only good thing is we aren't losing like Sydney. Champions? You're having a laugh!

We all dream of a team with loads of fans, a team with loads of fans!

when have i admitted that? it's brisbane who have truly raised the bar this year and they are the ones making for entertaining football. all this verbal diarrhoea about heart playing this beautiful football is more chest pumping than anything else. some of the things heart are trying to do on and off the field is good (some not so good) compared to teams like gold coast and sydney, but they haven't been anywhere near as entertaining this year as victory have been in seasons 2-5. even this year we have shown glimpses... our game against brisbane in brisbane recently wasn't any less entertaining than the heart v brisbane game on the weekend. it was our former keeper who cost us points in that game.

thought i read you giving credit to the heart style of play, i could be wrong

i did say that i enjoyed watching the heart v roar game on sunday, maybe you got confused with that. i've been bagging the heart since day 1 when they come out saying they're a "purist" football team. they are more plastic than most teams doing the rounds.

plastic, how so?

My first taste of A-League. Bit disappointing losing 2-0. Might have to jump straight back on the Victory bandwagon with Ian.

Lol.

Was thinking of you at the game. Easily the worst performance I have seen from them. Terrible. Don't blame you not being happy with it. Let me down. I brought 12 friends with me, all new to the game, been talking it up to them, none of them left too impressed. I was yawning during most of the game.

Oh well, thems the breaks.

Capable of much better. Terrible showing.

Should I give them one more chance then Bobby? I know even less about soccer than footy but don't know why they took 25 off, the little bloke with the green flouro boots - he seemed pretty good. Reckon Aloisi should give it away too.

Seems you do know a bit. I think Zahra was pretty good but he made a few errors. He is in full development mode though. We should of started with Terra on the field.

Aloisi is looking every bit his age. I think I sense something happening with him. When I spoke to him last week he sounded frustrated. A sure sign of realisation the body isn't working as quick as the mind.

Mate, I won't tell you who to go for, it's a feel you get from a team. I won't stop anyone going to follow the Victory if thats what they truly want, as long as they are supporting the game and league.

Tonight was as I said, terrible and the worst they have played at home all year. Hope it is never repeated. I'm really disappointed in the boys tonight.

I watched the match. Heart got duded on the first goal, the ref blew his whistle for the player to take the kick too late when was already kicking it. Heart players stopped, Adelaide didn't.. goal. Adelaide better team though and I benefited, their odds were good. ;)

A-League really needs to find a way to step up it's quality. Can be shocking at times. Will probably take time, I just don't know how they're ever going to compete when our most talented players go overseas for more money and the talented players don't come here for less money. Really an uphill battle.

I thought I heard the whistle. Oh well we got what we deserved last night. No complaints.

Barnzy, I think if you ever want to compare the A League to the top leagues around the world you are always going to be disappointed. It is what it is, a developing league that is getting better all the time. It will take years to get it to a level to even compete with the second tier leagues of this world. I will tell you what though, it is getting better, not worse and that's a positive. You will have some games where the standard is below what we want, but generally there has been some top class games this season. The passing and movement of some teams has been sensational, I mean even watching Fury games on occassions has been entertaining. Shows positive signs when the worst team in the league still has entertainment value.

Watching Flores tonight shows there really is some top class players coming into the league. He can be on a different level to everyone on occassions.

The league will get there mate. But a heap of patience is required.

agree with the last part bob. the problem i have is that there are football lovers out there who love the EPL, but don't like the standard of the a-league and think it's below them, so they won't support it. i call these people eurosnobs. yes, the standard might not be great at times, but we to start somewhere. if you love the game, support it domestically by supporting a team (preferably victory).

as i said above, support the bloody a-league!!! the more people who support it, the more money there will be in the game (tv rights, sponsorship, etc), which means more national team players will stay home and will mean better quality foreign players.

we also need to be like most other asian nations in that we need to have enough money in the domestic league to keep most of our national team players at home. we also need to stop quality players like sasha ognenovski, josh kennedy, joel griffiths and jon mckain, etc, playing at home instead of chasing the cash in asia. could take 10-20 years for this to happen though... hosting the 2022 world cup would help (fingers crossed).

Cracking game Victory V Roar. Best I have seen in our country. Good pace, good pressue and short sharp passing.

And Robbie Kruse needs to be involved with some National Sqauds. At 22 leading the Golden Boot he needs to be exposed to the next level, same with David Williams at NQF. Not saying they should be playing games but at the very least they should be in squads.

Great game, wacky ending!

yeah more proof that it's not our season this year. it's the 3rd week in a row, we fell behind, worked hard to get in front, but gave away a late goal to lose 2 points. it sucks at the moment. we should be 6 points further up the table.

what makes it even more weirder is that we have scored 17 of our 24 goals in the second half, but only one of then after 75 minutes... and that goal was in junk time in a game we had already lost (perth away).

Kruse seems to be in rare form. Surely deserves a chance at higher level, either for Aust or overseas.

yeah he still falls over a little too easily, but has reinvented himself as a striker. his ex-teammates tommy oar and michael zullo went to europe last year, so i'm expecting kruse to go after this season. although i'd much prefer him to stay. he owes us imo.

Has to go to the Asain Cup. Aussie soccer is about 18 months away from following the same path as Aussie cricket.

The Heart season has fallen apart. Josip Skoko has been awful.

disagree. the younger generation coming through is looking very promising and i don't think the asian cup is an appropriate tounament to select uncapped players who have never been part of the national squad.

sibon 36, skoko and aloisi both 35. so is bolton i think, although keepers do tend to play longer. and some of their kids doing well early (kalmar and the likes) might be tiring a bit. heart should still make the top 6 with that squad, although i hope they don't :P

Maybe, but we don't seem to bep pushing many through.

I could think of nothing better for Kruse to just be the last man in the group training with the group.

Would rather give him the chance to be around the group then send over Scot McDonald.

Have a look at the squad we sent over in 2007. The majority of them are still starting in 2010 or in squads.

Aussie Cricket mistakes of mid 2005. On the same path.
