A little bit of Knighter in Hyde.

Knights is too slow for modern day football.

You could say the same thing about Jack Dyer, but I bet you wouldn't dare.

The game has evolved, players changed, but that doesn't change the fact that these players were great players of their era.

Pull out your copy of the 1995 semi final Diggler and remind yourself of how good Knighter was. :P

Why dont you compare Hyde to a real gun and someone who dominated a Grand final like Geoff Raines,
not to someone who's main claim to fame was kicking 3 goals in a semi!!!
Some of you ferals overate players!!!

In response to that silly comment I've just two words to say to you diggler: Bob Skilton.

Knights was too slow to play the modern game.

Interesting comparison, Harry. I agree that Hyde has shown some glamour this season. It's caught us all off guard but it's happening.

Here Hear Diggler ..Once again your stunning and cowardly attack on these delusional ferals is right on the mark...Im sure if they had there way they would still want Nick Daffey and his cronies still getting a game...

Appoligies to digg/laff for copyright of there material.

mr17 knighter had a bit of pace but was a bit restricted in his last two seasons as age and injuries caught up with him. this is the second post of yours i have come across tonight belittling former richmond champions, you are not related to a discraced former poster who went by the name of hammerfire? his stock and trade was to bag former players which didn't go over too well.

There's definitely a few similarities Harry...most of them mentioned along with the differences. The pleasing thing IMO is the way Knights was born with his attributes under a pretty ordinary coaching regime which existed throughout his career, while Hyde has developed his through a combination of hard work on his part and what is now a good coaching regime which is obviously giving players both added skill and confidence. Hyde's improvement over the last season and a half has been nothing short of amazing and bodes well for all our other juniors.

Agree Harry - I remember this issue was touched upon early last year when Hydey was flying. A bit of Knights with his evasion skills, especially the ability to come to a stop and then still bamboozle his opponent. Agree with Rayzor that Hyde has worked on his game where it was more natural to Matty. Hyde doesn't have the 360 degree vision Knights had or the wow factor with his delivery, but he is a better runner and is a consitent target hitter. With more confidence and hard work he may turn out to be extremely valuable as he is very valuable right now!

The most valuable asset Hyde has added to his game this year is his obvious goal sense.
We've been screaming out for mids who can kick a goal and Hyde has shown (again) that he's got more party tricks in his bag than people knew about.
Underestimate Hyde at your peril because that's exactly what opposition sides have been doing this year.

i can appreciate the similarities between Knighta and Hyde.

As hydey gets on he'll gain ground on Knightas exceptional awareness and vision

and Chris might have a bigger motor age for age

Knighta was a champion, a true Richmond great. He kicked three goals in that Essendon semi that were some of the greatest goals ever but rarely does it get mentioned. Mick McGuane kicked one goal and that is all you ever hear about.

Knighta actually mentored Hyde a lot during his last few years. Hyde is making his own mark and is a real success story but not in the class of Knighta.

If RFC had played in more finals and maybe a GF, Knighter would have gone down as one of the greatest - quite possibly with a Norm Smith.

As for Hyde and Knights, I reckon Meyer looks more like Knighter - the loping run, plenty of time, good skills. Although I think Danny is right footer he has that "all the time in the world" look that Knighter had.
