A Long off-season!

I'm writing this from overseas, where I have spent the last half of the season - but - I've just read the Weagles/Tiges game day post - and thought I'd throw my two bobs worth in :)

What CRUD!

TW was quoted this week as saying the match against the Weagles would tell us where we are as a team - and - how much the 1pt loss to Geelong in Round 22 burnt the players in last years off season!

I thought we improved this year, primarily through the efforts of Tambling / Deledio / Raines!! even Simmonds / Krakouer and of course RICHO!! - BUT - how bad is this off season going to be????

There will be hype, and talk about new signings - BUT - the reality is we won 1 more game than 2005 (and that was after only just beating Essendon!!!) we had 4? 100+ point thrashings, where opposition teams treated us with contempt - and we were brushed aside - and then we finish the season in a "Hey, I don't want to get hurt before my summer of swill in Bali on my $250,000+ a year pampered pet lifestyle!!!"

Really - it is a huge disappointment that they couldn't put the effort in.

And - as a final note - to those who say riddance to Chaff and Staff (and perhaps Kellaway) - I say - Gentlemen, thanks for your efforts. All 3 have been good loyal skilled valuable players for the Yellow and Black. You may be past your best, and we may need the youth policy - but - you deserve respect.

Good luck.

Here's to 2007!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

You know whats an even worse statistc

out of our wins, 6 have been brisbane, essndon and carlton twice. That says it all. Over 50% of our wins coming from the 3 bottom teams.

Wake up people we are in for alot more pain before it gets better.

I have noticed that one, I was definately wondering when it would be brought up. It does say a lot IMO, 9th is very flattering when you take that into account.

Bit harsh summary really. Not many expected us to perform better than last year, especially after the first 3 losses. Deledio, very consistent all year, unearthed Raines and Polo as great future players. A number of other young players introduced showing promise but still need to wait and see for judgement. The building process has advanced very well in my opinion, and far from a wasted season.

Pull your heads in ::)

Considering the kids we had in this year and the injuries we have done a lot better than 2005.

Sir were you the guy who rang 3AW after the Saints game and said Frawley could do better with this team than TW?

I fail to see your point. This year we beat MOST of the teams (the Hawthorn game being the exception) we should have beat and some we were expected to lose. We broke some long standing hoodoos, we blooded more youngsters than any other team and unearthed some very promising young players. Apart from the 3 figure shellackings, I think the Toigs showed some real promise and glimpses of an exciting future. I do not subscribe to the Misery Brigade and I don't need to be told to "wake up". My RFC glass is half full rather than half empty and the next couple of years will see it comfortably topped up and ready for the 2008 GF. Viva la Richmond!!

I am simply stating the facts.  If ppl want to get warm and fuzzy about wins against 16th 15th and 14th placed teams then go ahead.

I am wrapped we are finally taking the policy of recruting and building our own team, but a lot of work remains im sure you agree

I agree,

Polo, Tambilng, Foley, Deledio, Howat, White, Raines,

There some of the players that have been fantastic for the team in there 1st, 2nd and 3rd seasons

I highly doubt we can make a grand final by 2008, when you consider many other teams are way more advanced in their rebuilding stage.

I agree TF06. Our window will be 2008-2012

I think us and the Hawks will rise up the ladder together.

They got some good players from the 2004 draft aswell and i hope we can beat them in the 2009 grannie

Sounds not flash on the face of it BUT...

Wins against Adelaide, Cats(Skilled), Collingwood, Brisbane(Gabba), Port(AAMI) make for better reading.

Must not forget most games we've played with 9,10 or 11 youngsters in the team.

There's plenty of positives leading into the off season too IMO. :)

A wonderful observation - the people penciling us in for grand final appearances in a couple of years from now have rocks in their head. We've been massacred with disturbing regularity against top line opposition when they have come to play, and our spine is still substandard and will get worse before it gets any better. Plus we are are now in mid-table hell so we won't be getting the absolute cream of the draft picks.

At the moment we are the very definition of mediocrity - bullies against the basket cases (and even there we've had to struggle somewhat on occasions), competitive against the also rans and crap against the really good sides. Just one extra win at the end of a season with six gimme matches like that does not add up to the beginning of a golden new era, and our thrashing today shows us just how far we have to go. The pluses and minuses of this year cancel each other out - all we are doing is treading water.

I also think that those who think we havent improved this season even though there has been a substantial team makeup changes and a decimated backline through injury all season, have rocks in their head. So lloks like lots of people have rocks in their heads from all angles.

we won 9 games out of 10 against bottam 8 sides
2 out of 12 against top 8

9th-10th is accurate description of where we are at
