A marketing and talent opportunity?

Just slow down a bit on this one.

Essendon have decided to play one of the Japanese Boys against Sydney in a Practise Match.

There current thoughts are that neither Japanese Player will play with the Bombers or Reserves and maybe allowed to continue their experience of Footy Culture at a VFL Reserves Team or in a Suburban League.

There is a hope that these Players will then go back to Japan and be used to market the sport further.

...And just to back up a point I made earlier about Japanese baseball teams training in Australia.... Currently the Chiba Lotte Marines, who are the current Japan [and Asian] champions are doing their preseason in Geelong. They just played a trial game agains the Australian national side.  There are reports of the training camp in the Japanese newspapers every day. [There are about 3 all-sport newspapers, so they will print anything!]

Australia offers these teams several advantages for preseason training- 1] warm weather, when it is cold in Japan, 2] good facilities, and 3] basically the same time zone.

So at the very least we should have some contact with the Hanshin Tigers just in case they decide to do preseason down under.  [In which case we should have them over to Punt Road - that would definitely be in the press here.]

PS. Dont forget Hanshin have two Australian pitchers, Williams and Oxspring.

Excellent info, Tigerblood.
You give very good reason why dialogue should be immediately established.

Definitely would be a perfect match, and a benefit to both organisations.

If anyone at RFC wants to proceed, I'm sure I can get my business contacts in Osaka to get in touch with the Hansin Tigers and act as the go between.
