A new Dunc

How Dunc can be considered a tiger legend is beyond me, considering he was a leading senior
player in one of the most unsuccessful eras in RFC history!!!
......

You may be right, but since I can't really find anyone in this thread mentioning him as a "tiger legend", how people can make such exaggerations to make a their point is also "beyond me".
Not people, David, diggler, there's a difference.

Well DC, who was runner up and 3rd?

Ash Prescott & Ty Esler would have been thereabouts.
Stuart Edwards won the Goal Kicking for the competition, so imagine he polled Ok as well.
Only other name I can think of from that era are Nathan Bower, James Theissen, Dallas Kalms & Steven Pearce. The latter 2 didn't play senior footy, though Kalms was emergency a few times. Pearce broke his leg mid season in '91.

I can't actually remember..I was hoping DC could. Ash Prescott didn't play under 19's in 91..he was too old. Nor did Dallas Kalms. But yes Pearce did do his knee. I think Shaun Slater might have been in the top 3. Stuey easily won the goalkicking but he injured himself halfway throught the season and literally was never the same again. The first half of 91 he was unstoppable. Well DC?

I will never forget when Dunc kicked his first ever Goal against Power at the G, the crowd went absolutely ape.

Some Port Sporters asked what the hell was all that about

"That Man is an absolute *smile*ing Tiger Legend" was my reply

Who says I make statements up?
Its not the first time Ive seen the statement that Dunc is a tiger legend on this forum!!!
If he is a legend, what is Hart, Bartlett and co???
As I said, hes name will be long forgotton by the next generation of tiger supporters.
Who remembers an ordinary player in the worst era of the RFC history!!1

I agree with ya Digs, the legend status portrayed is a bit over the top.

It's a pity he had troubles with his pure footy skills, maybe then people would remember him for generations, and not his courageous tackling and his tagging roles that nullified some of the games greatest...................oh well.

Mate, lighten up,

Duncan=Legend, Hart = Legend, Bartlett =Legend,

Anyone who pulls on the Tiger Jumper is an absolute #@Smiling@# Legend.

I am in awe of anyone who lays their body on the line, and I reckon that D Kellaway has bled Yellow and Black for a long time.

This statement is used in the boardroom when you want to pump up the team, for many on PRE it may make a good topic of conversation. :rubhead

........he is a legend..........

I agree Diggles.   :clap

I challenge anyone to name a player who scrubbed up better in an official black RFC suit and white shirt than Dund did, haha. :smiledevil

I also challenge anyone to come up with a more committed, brave and determined player than Duncan Kellaway.

He'll always be a Tiger legend in my eyes. :clap

Big difference with someone reminiscing about what they said at the footy years ago, compared to basically stating that people were making out that DK was a Tiger legend, in the current context of this thread.

There's really no need to exaggerate when people are quite capable of making valid points anyway, eh?

im with you diggles.the rfc has been in the doldrums that long most ferals dont know the difference between a legend and a dud.

I gotta say, If you guys are calling Duncan a Dud, that is really taking it too far.
Call him Unskilled but he was never a Dud.

Why was he called the Glove?,
Who does Nathan Buckley rate as his toughest opponent?

Every player in a team has a role to play, Duncan did exactly what was asked.

Legend n 4 A person whose fame or notoriety makes him a source of exagerated or romanticized tales or exploits.
The Collins English Dictionary definition of Legend.

By this description, Duncan would appear to be the very definiton of a legend.

Well done David. It's quite an impressive list in terms of those who went on to play senior AFL footy. Some names there I'd long forgotten.

Gotta hand it to you Diggler, at least you are consistant.

just blame Rosy for the cobwebs and spiders everywhere...........

I think Legend is a name that can only be coined to players by those outside of the RFC.  It really is used far too often. Hence those like Hart, Bartlett, Dyer ect  deserve it, as its the football public and media that has decreed those players their status.

Houlihan
Nicholls
Flemming
Marsh

These are some of the people who have pulled on the RFC jumper and are still not fit to stud Bartlett/deyer/hart/ bourkes boots

While I did love Dunc and wish we had more players who had his bravery we need to leave the legend status to those who deserve it.
