PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

However, things are not good.

Before the game, yes - I would have taken an eleven point loss. Especially taking in account the fact we had just received a royal flogging from the bulldogs. However, after watching tonights game I feel I need to make a few comments.

Before I get into what I hate, I will get into what I liked.

Andrew Raines: *smile*, he was good. Went in hard, made 8 tackles, used the ball well - I was thinking everyone was over exagerating about him growing in leaps and bounds, but watching him play was great tonight.

Troy Simmonds: Dominated the ruck. Sure the Saints tandem of Ackland and Blake aren't that great, but he did which had to be done. He dominated in the middle and picked up some of the ball around the ground.

Patrick Bowden: In his short career thus far, he has always shown potential and always seemed to be inconsistant. However as a Tiger he has performed well and his game tonight was great.

Daniel Jackson: He is a forward. Took some very good grabs. 2 on the lead, 1 one out with a defender and 1 third man up to get a ball earmarked to Richo (who got absolutely slaughted by hudgeton). Kicking could have been better, the ones he missed were gettable, but still - He played well.
His attack on the ball was also good I thought, that collision between him and I beleive it was Leigh Fisher, I could hear that from the THIRD ROW! Ouch.

Will Thursfield: The kid played well. Didn't get much of it, however kept up with Riewoldt and made some good spoils. The freekick against him just before the half time siren I beleive was a shocker. It's a damn shame he done his ACL :'(

Now onto the bad.

I am convinced that a few players are past their best. These players do not offer anything that a kid could offer. They couldnt hit targets, made dsigraceful decisions and/or have deficiencies in their game.

Kane Johnson: His disposal was terrible tonight and on a number of occasions, or dear captain put other players under the pump in our defensive half. Lacks penetration with his disposal. Does not create anything attacking. Sure the stats say he had 24, but damn they were worthless. I really want some one to argue this point with me, what does kane johnson offer to the club?

Andrew Kellaway: Shocking Disposal, If you can't hit a target you shouldnt be playing. Again, what could he do that a youngster (ie: Thursfield or Schulz) couldn't do? Unfortunately for us and fortunately for him, they both injured themselves. A number of times the kicks fell short, causing the players to be put under pressure or turn it over.

Darren Gaspar: Cant kick. Is dumb. Unfortuantely we do not have adequate cover for him. Next

Oh hang on. There was this passage of play where subpar couldnt hit a target, who handballed to Johnson who kicked it straight to a Saints player, whom received a 50 metre penalty from Tivendale holding on too long. But no, I'm just imaging this indeptness I guess ::) The funniest was when Gaspar played on and tried to get around Hamil and promptly coughed it up.

Chris Hyde: Son, you go in and you run with the ball. I commend that. But YOU CAN NOT be a midfielder in the AFL with one foot. In the second quarter when he received the ball and could have kicked with his right, but then turned and got caught going for the left, wanted to make me headbutt a little kid.

As for Tivendale, I thought he played well tonight. He still done a few dumb things, but I can't really fault them. His disposals usually hit the target and he didnt sell many team mates up the river without a paddle.

Richardson had a shocker today. He got beaten by Hudgeton, and that attempted run and bounce which ended in misery - well... what can you say. He has played 200+ games and tries to do crap like that. Come on Richo, you should do much better than that.

Anyway, back to the start of this post. Why aren't things good? Our so called leaders are the ones who can not kick, can not play, make dumb decisions and cause Richmond supporters to suffer from a range of Heart Related Ailments. This is not good for the club as a whole. This will only stunt our growth. We must chuck the players I mentioned above in the yarra. Yes, the yarra, I am damn serious about this.

I am not commenting on Joel Bowden or Kayne Pettifers weaknesses as they showed tonight that their strengths outweigh their weaknesses (although you could make a case of Danny Meyer for Pettifer). Pettifer is a condiment type of player. Like, you have your bread which is the spine and your meat which is the midfielders. They are the base of your sandwhich,. You need them, or else is just bread or meat. Now you need some salad, you can eat salad by itself too, but you cant eat a condiment by yourself, unless you're a freak. The right condiment on the right meat and the right salad makes for a tasy sandwhich. However, we currently dont have the right meat, salad or bread atm. So I would rather not comment on Pettifer as he has talent, but I do admit he has some deficiencies.

Hartigan is a clown and injured himself trying to bump Muppet Arms. If I were him, I'd retire.

A few other things - what is with our defensive play? A number of occasions the saints ball carrier was allowed to run in with no one hassling him? There was one occasion, where Kellaway had no man, but ran the exact opposite direction to space? I dont understand this? Why can't we play man to man football?

Also, WHY THE *smile* HAVENT WE ADAPTED TO THE NEW KICK IN RULE, WE ARE GETTING DESTROYED BY IT - AND WE ARE NOT USING IT WELL.

Hell, we use the novelty of play on wrong too. It's like we've bastardised it, like the Rogue Traders bastardised My Charona. We use it for all the wrong reasons, we are like the Sith of the AFL Star wars universe, using the force for wrong. But instead of wearing black and having kick ass red light sabres and destroying planets, we are looking like clown shoes. (Refer exhibit A - handball to stantionary player in the middle of the ground in traffic)

But to top it off on a nice and warm fuzzy feeling, I do appreciate the effort by the boys tonight. I am not convince Saints are *that* good after this game, but I do feel good about the commitment to the jumper a number of the players showed. However, the performance and the skill level of a number of senior players, left me with a bitter after taste in my mouth, which tasted much more like butt than defeat does.

Regards

Bingo!
Currently on the Andrew Raines bandwagon
And wishing Will Thursfield a speedy recovery, whilst burning a gollywog in the image of Darren *smile*.
