With the recent story of Foley wanting to retain his no.41, after being offered the no.9, I did a quick check relating to our current captain.

Some of you may remember that from the time Kane Johnson came to Richmond, in 2003, he wore the no.28 guernsey.
Last year he accepted the no.17, as captain.
However, this year, his old no.28 guernsey has been offered & taken by Carl Peterson.

Probably take another number. It wouldn't be nice to reclaim the 28 after giving it up for Carl to make his history in, unless it was Carl's wish to change,  and there is no guarantee Kane will be captain until he retires.

I'm under the impression that Carl is just 'minding' the number for Kane, and will hand it back when Kane relinquishes the captaincy.

If such little respect is shown for numbers and tradition I don't understand why they aren't using the #9 guernsey.

On the RFC website it says "Carl Peterson, the Club’s fourth Draft choice will have the No. 28 guernsey, on loan from skipper Kane Johnson, who wore it in his first couple of seasons at Tigerland before taking over the captaincy"

Feel free to delete this Rosy if it's against the policy on using RFC stuff.

I'm sure it's fine Jexy but considering my e-mail enquiring about the situation hasn't been replied to, and the last I heard we had permission from the club to use articles from the RFC site (non - Sportal content) I'll leave it as a matter of them contacting us rather than trying to guess where things stand now.

A link to the info should be included though.

I hope that Kane could play out his days in the captains number.

If not, it in the mean time gives Carl a chance to settle in a little to the RFC with other Indigenous players around him.

Time will tell.
