Yep - Oh we're from Tigerland, A fighting fury, We're from Tigerland.........
I am still singing and humming the tune this morning.
But in truth - I also know that the game last evening was not of the greatest AFL standard - and for that matter it was not of the middle-of-the-road normal AFL standard either.
Both teams squandered opportunities through poor disposal of the ball, through poor decision making, through over handballing and at stages the game became a comedy of errors.
There were passages of play that made me sit up a few times - when we moved the ball quickly and directly through the corridor to our forwards we looked good and Mitch Morton kicked 5 because of this. Whilst these were great to see there really was not the usual AFL pressure on the ball carrier and we have always looked good when we click and we are not under pressure.
The other thing that caught my eye was our ferocity at the ball and the opposition when they had the ball - our tackling went up a notch - but again both teams had 6 players aged 20 or less - it was boys against boys.
I know and I reckon you know too that when it becomes our boys against the men of St Kilda next week we may see a different result. But I hope our ferocity at the ball and the opposition is still there - I hope the young guys acquit themselves well.
This could be the birth of the new tiger - heaven knows it has been a long gestation and we have been in labour for the last 5 years - and like all fledglings I hope our guys grow strong and tall whilst gaining the right experience - learning from clashes like our next game against St Kilda - so one day they can bare their mature tiger claws and tear apart the competition........
