The other point is that, at a time when our players are being criticised for being too self-centred and not team orientated enough, do we really want blokes who are wanting to leave their own clubs for a bit of extra cash?

Excellent point, I didn't realise he was still in contract and wanting more cash. I don't like that. >:(

My belief is that any trade involving Sandilands will not cost as much as people might think. The Hawks first rounder will probably do it.

The Dockers are between a rock and a hard place here. If he will not re-sign with them, they risk losing him for nothing to the GC, who can swoop as soon as he is out of contract. And I have heard that the Hawks have a contingency plan in place, with a deal to get him from GC in a trade.

Doesn't leave the Dockers a lot of room in which to move if it is true.

Not only that, but this guy only got a chance because the Dockers gave him a rookie spot. Prior to that, he was zoned to Claremont who didn't bother because they thought he'd never make it, so East Freo took a punt. The point is, the Dockers backed him from nothing. Odds on he wouldn't be earning what he is now without the Dockers taking a punt. I can understand him wanting to get a decent pay packet, but to pressure the club like this seems a bit rich.

And really, is he that good a player? He is tall and gets a lot of hitouts, but his around the ground work is still pretty average. And the Dockers don't seem to win the clearances like they should with such a dominant ruckman. SO is the issue the freo midfield, or the ruckman who gets his hand to it first but can't direct it down to advantage.

Would you make the same comment if it was Mathew Scarlett or Judd looking for a new club?

IMHO he is that good, he would make a huge difference to a midfield like the Hawks. He should be All Aust. this year IMHO.

Don't clubs get a draft compensation as decided by the AFL to make up for any uncontracted player leaving, or did I just make that up? That would give Freo far more barganing power and if I were them I would stand my ground.

No - but every player is different.

Judd is a once in a generation player, and only left the Eagles to go home after a flag and Brownlow. The Eagles got a fair return I reckon.

I doubt Scarlett would leave for the money. Haven't most senior Geelong players agreed to get paid less than their market value to keep the team together? Ironically that's the kind of attitude that'd be great down at Tigerland (I wonder how much of that Hinkley would bring with him).

Sandilands, in contrast, is trying to make hay while the sun is shining with an apparent scant regard for 'the team'. No thanks.

We should continue to develop our own rucks. I think we have potential in them. Sandilands is too old and we would have to give up quite a bit to get his services, something that we don't want to do given the compromised drafts coming up.
