His kicking is not the best we all know but my take is that while you want every player being able to kick well, that doesn't preclude you from taking promising talent. The type of player he is tends to nullify this also a little as a lot of his possessions will be short, ripping ball out of packs disposals.

I could name a lot of players who have been heavily criticised for their kicking and either go on to put that behind them or still be a starter in most peoples eyes in their 22.

Let's keep in mind that while he is still unproven, he is not completely raw/untested.

He averaged 14.7 disposals this year for 60% game time in the AFL, not the TAC or substandard leagues. That is excellent for a inside midfielder.

Jordan lewis is a monty for this, kicks short at every oppurtunity and does it efficiently but when he does go long normally results in a turnover...

My mood is bemused overall, the club got the big things right- keeping the high picks and putting them in the right position. And I do believe PRE, as usual, is perhaps overreacting to things.

But I have been worried for a while for the large amount of +30s on the list (5) and 2 guys who may never again play high level football (Petts and Polak). In that sense I do agree that the club has a potentially huge need to refit the list next year and I thought it would have been sensible to drop one or two of those 7 this year to spread out the pain.

But isn't the point of hiring Craig Cameron exactly to stop things like this?

Whilst i would like to think mature aged picks (thompson, mcmahon, polak, hislop, morton, johnson etc) are great is chosen correctly, its pretty clear that very few recycled players actually break the mold.

Pettifer should be delisted and knee may end him anyway

The GC 17 club can take at least one uncontracted player from us. So what if Petts comes back from the knee well and becomes that player???

Surely that would suit us??

claw i will take a 20 yr old mitch morton with his skills from the eagles any day of the week over an 18 yr old 3rd rd pic....He has been very good for us and will only get better.
