I went to a newsagent today and they had something called the AFL Record (I think that's correct) which was in the form of a soft covered book. Has anyone looked at this? I was wondering if it's worth getting or is the prospectus better?

Ventured down to the newsagency over lunch.

Saw two publications titled AFL Record.

One was a thin magazine that previews the 2009 season. This is what I was referring to earlier. However it appears now not to include the tiny booklet that you needed a magnifying glass to read.

The other was a much larger tome titled AFL Record Season Guide 2009. Upon studying this I realised that this is clearly a new cover for the old volumes AFL 2002, AFL 2003, 2004, etc.
This book serves as an updated statistical history of the AFL.
It is this book that I refer to when performing most statistical projects.

The variation with this and Prospectus is that the former clearly has a focus on the upcoming season, whereas the latter is an updated statistical history.

Both are very good but used for different purposes.

I always love the AFL Prospectus, a couple of interesting things for me from this year:

- McGuane didn't have many goals kicked on him (16 for the season) - I think he was Terry's go to man to stop big blokes that Thursty was having trouble with in the 2nd half of the season. He also improved his disposal efficiency significantly

- Kingy did have a lot of goals kicked on him :(

- Lids is elite as a goalkicking midfielder, they had him in their all-australian team

- Polo's stats were pretty good from limited opportunities

- Andrew 'Giant Ranga' Browne was statistically the best ruckman in the TAC last year

They desperately need to get champion data to do VFL stats - Nahas' stats were from 3 years ago

No surprise there really. Scoops has already ppointed out that Muscles is the next Dustin Fletcher.

I have had trouble finding this years version, went to Borders and they were frustrated at not having any in stock, ::)

If anyone can tell me their newsagent that has it (Bayside area) it would be appreciated. I already have AFL 2009 and would like to compare it before buying (call me tight but I don't want to double up).

Got mine from the Herald Sun shop in Southbank.

Well done.

You've hit on a fundamental problem, we don't get hardly any ststs at all from the VFL to work with.
It's almost as bad as the stats coming out of SA juniors.

What the VFL needs to understand is that more information will make the VFL only boys more attractive to AFL clubs.
