Lawn Bowls.

A response to some of the names mentioned in the ensuing thread;
Phantom has summed up Hernaman very well; Had some issues around the club and with a poor attitude, the Tigers had no hesitation letting him go; This of course was during a stage when Northey just wouldn't accept lazy, uninterested footballers;
Remember a game Robert Walker played in 1991 at Victoria Park; I think from memory, he played on Daicos on this day (about round 20); Walker was doing some tagging roles through the middle and may have done the job on Simon Atkins the week before the Collingwood game;
Remember Banik's first game at Princess Park against the Hawks; It followed the debacle the previous week against North when the Tigers lost by 140 points; Banik was OK, but were simply asking too much from a small defender - he was playing on talls and being asked to kick out from full back at 17;
Craig Smith is an interesting one; Thought he had alot of potential; Saw him at the G in 85 Under 19 GF against the Roos; Broke his leg a couple of times and may have also broken his hand; Injuries got the better of Smith, but for a player with some ability, he looked very slow to me;
Other names that spring to mind; John Mrakov - Our inside informer that helped us create the Mother's Day masacre; Underwood, and that splendid game in the wet against the Bombers in 91;
The Ryan bros. were good for a laugh; Saw Des get his arse busted a few times - one noteable game against BT in round 6 or 7 (86); Stephen was slightly better, but his 50 odd goals from a HHF in 90 got to his head the following year, consequently spending alot of time in the ressies and then later at Collingwood for a year or two;
Have to mention Terence Keys; His father demanded he got a low number at Collingwood when he first started; The Tigers gave a very early draft pick for Keys; In his first appearance in Tiger colours, he led out in a night game, took a screamer, went back and slotted a goal from 50m; He did nothing for the rest of the night; And again, in round one 1991, he decided to fly again, this time against the Saints; But, those two magical marks were quickly erased, when I saw him drop a chest mark in the wet against Adelaide at the G (91), less than 5m in front of goal;
Cant finish without mentioning David Cloke. His jelly arse was wobbling even more when he return to Punt Rd in 90; He was playing like he had just started his career; Brownlow votes in the first three games of 91 and eight goals to end his career; Always loved the way he scratched and picked his arse when lining up the big sticks and that famous trademark, polishing his kicking boot against the back of his left sock;
One players name that escapes me was a HFF that played during 90-92. Had a beautiful kick; A medium sized type...oh yes...Greg Hamilton...that was his name;
Am I allowed to mention Tim Gepp, Dean Notting, Kevin Ablett, Dan Foley, Mark Stockdale or Michael Lockman? :hihi

I knew his g/f of the time - a very decent sort just quietly!

Andy Goodwin 45 and still playing, white-line fever getting worse as he gets older. Time to give it away when you pick on kids to deck Andy. ;)

He doesn't just do it at the games either Rosy! The boys know to stay well clear of him during training as well!

I was glad I was a bit away from him in the Legends game at Punt Rd i can tell you, he threw it around a bit even then....

Only if you promise not to mention Gavin Bayes, Greg Conlan, Todd Breman, David Buttifant, Ron Thornton or Tony Pastore.

Tony Pastore...Ran into him in a bar in Echuca about 18 momths ago. He was rapped that I recognised him. I don't think it happens to often these days ;)

A nicer bloke you would not meet. I know I had a great hour or two talking old Tigers with him but buggered if I can remember it.
Cheers.

Yep, I recall Simon Dennis playing in the 1989 Tiger U19 premiership team, if that's correct.
I think Rob Walker was thec other hbf in that team with him.
Both got early injuries and were soon discarded.

One of the things you'll notice with some of the U19 premiership boys is that they were given only 1 or 2 years out of the U19s into senior footy, 1sts or reserves, to make it, then shipped off.

It was one of the great faults of Tigerland in those times. Little or no junior development after the U19s.

The U19 premiership team in 89 is still one of my favourite footy memories, I remember the game was at Waverley a week after the GF, I think there had been a draw earlier in the finals series? As a kid i thought I'd be seeing the Tigers in the finals all the time after that, how wrong I was.

I didnt think Greg Conlan was too bad a player, he just wasn't on the list the following year. Playing style aside, he looked like a taller Barry Rowlings! Gavin Bayes was a classic case of looking like tarzan, playing like jane! Great build for modern day footy!

lol. Yes DC was a special player. 8 goals in his final game is a cherished memory.
A big loss to the Tigers in the early 80s, probably the biggest.

what a great day that was!
i`m pretty sure we drew with geelong earlier in the finals series at waverley when geelong seniors were also playing on that day.
my geelong mates were giving me crap about it later that night because a richmond player missed a shot after the siren or something.

my recollections of that grand final day were...
driving up from geelong with my family and one of my mates, being so excited and thinking this is going to be a special day,i know it was only an under 19`s grand final but i was only 15 years old and it was still the mighty tigers in a grand final.

north were red hot favourites that day at waverley,there were about 10,000 people there,overwhelming majority were richmond supporters which i think may have un-nerved north melbourne because we were very loud.
there was a fight early in the first quarter and the ump just let the play go to break up the fight ,and a tiger player streamed forward and kicked a goal,the crowd went berserk and we ended up flogging them.

north had some future premiership players in that team if i recall correctly,maybe even carey.
