AFL threatens to sue fan over video (The Age)

Well done, Andrew!

You and your little mate are slowly but inexorably disaffecting football lovers.

But the good thing is that it might only relate to the AFL brand as the local/grass-roots variety seems to be flourishing.

Next weekend, Castlemaine plays the Kyneton Tigers - a great temptation for the Growl household to turn their backs on your delayed telecast and watch some real footy!

I have it on good authority that A Anderson is directly responsible for the 'hands in the back' rule (which they have already stated will not be changed for next year).
Then we have non-existent jumper clashes, disdain for the ordinary fan etc etc.
When are the AFL going to realise that never have so many people been so collectively vocal in their concern on where footy is headed?
Demetriwho, Anderson and co. Pull your heads out of your arses and LISTEN. Or you may well find the fans band together and have you both removed.
You are supposed to be custodians of the game, You are not supposed to continually give yourselves pay rises whilst ruining the peoples game.

Anyone here good at setting up electronic petitions whereby club members could go to put down their names and member numbers in order to express their displeasure at AFL policies and seek to have AD and AA sacked?
It may not be possible, but it might make those clowns take notice. Nothing else has.

They dont care about petitions, as they truly believe they are doing whats in our best interest.

Effect is Im beginning to question the value of my membership package, and while I may keep my membership and reserve seat, cashing in the Social Club to buy a Melbourne Victory membership is looking more and more appealing these days.

Could the AFL do anything more to help the round ball take off in this town?

Glad you reminded me of that, TD.

I noticed on the weekend that the Bulldogs wore their "clash" jumper and another team - was it the Kangas? - were also in the away clobber.

I think we are being 'conditioned' to home and away gear rather than clash jumpers!

Look's like Telstra will get some more bad press after The Four Corner's program last night. Here is a statement from one of the head's at Telstra, sound's like a statement from the AFL.

"We run an absolute dictatorship and that’s what’s going to drive this transformation and deliver results… If you can’t get the people to go there and you try once and you try twice… then you just shoot ‘em and get them out of the way… " - Telstra Chief Operations Officer Greg Winn (at a May business meeting)

Jake - take that statement in the context it was being delivered.

The telecommunications industry is going through a huge upheaval at the moment and to stay in the top telcos in the world Telstra has to become far more focused - it simply cannot afford dead wood employees who are conditioned in doing things the costly, slowly old way - yes it may have been and still be the right way but the telco market has become impregnated with many options for customers and to keep customers Telstra has to become more competitive and more aggressive. Hence that statement was made in reference to staff who cannot change their old ways and therefore adapt to the new processes in Telstra that are needed to keep Telstra as the number 1 telco in the country.

Telstra if it does not change will die through the "death of a thousand cuts" - meaning - its business is being attacked by many thousand small entities around the world. Look at your home phone - many options now on who to use - look at the mobile market again many vendors pushing their products - look at the internet and how many ISPs and ASPs there are now, look at cable TV and who is involved and lastly look at broadband and what businesses are getting involved - Elders and Optus - Elders has never been in telecomunications previously - yet another big company moving in on the traditional Telstra market.

All this means is Telstra has to change to maintain its market share - for if it does not it will fold.

The sad part in all this is that the Federal Liberal Government has just by passed Telstra with its plan to roll out the OPEL (Optus and Elders) broadband - now how do all the mums and dads feel about buying those Telstra Shares from the Liberal Government - here buy shares in the largest Telco in our market - Government backed - a blue ribbon investment - then as soon as the Government gets rid of 83% of its ownership in Telstra it starts giving government hand outs and business to Telstra opposition.

Whose sold and Whose been sold a furphy?

AFL is no longer the people's game - sadly but true - it is owned by the corporations and it is changing to suit market driven economics rather than the loyal supporters of each club. What was once a great game now has become a 26 week advertising conduit for corporations.

Not sure the relevance Remote, and Telstra is a big boy, if it cannot get Govt business off its own merits it doesnt deserve a hand-out.

Back to the point though, Telstra is a flat track bully, and has a long history of abusing staff, customers, and stakeholders.

Fight The Power Rosy! :)

Is the Tiger TV thread down due to the discussion being completed, or has Rosy received more "friendly" letters from the AFL?

RT I can't believe you went to all that trouble to write in support of Telstra. They are a shockingly run organisation.

How can ""We run an absolute dictatorship..." be taken out of context. This is exactly how they treat the video content on the AFL site - if you don't have Big Pond then you do not have access to the game replays - it effectively is blackmailing AFL supporters to join Telstra's Big Pond to watch an AFL game that has nothing do to with Telstra - nothing (btw - really poor form AFL to agree to such a arrangement). Oh yeah some may say Telstra are a major sponsor of the AFL - big deal - do you get more excitement out a game of football today than say 30 years ago? 50 years ago? - I think not - so much for major sponsorship.

Telstra work practices of monitoring call centre staff are bordering sweat shop levels. The Telstra management are officious and dictatorial and with little understanding that the happiness of employees is the secret to running a successful organisation. Slashing and burning, retrenching staff and aggravating those that remain behind is a recipe for disaster. Given Telstra products are not innovative, differentiating or attractive and they are so overpriced the last thing they should be doing is getting the grass roots employees offside who are the life blood of the organisation.

There are many ways that Telstra could take to streamline their organisation to make themselves more competitive - they have taken the wrong way. I'm embarrassed that Telstra is an Australian company. There are plenty of other investments that 'Mums and Dads" could get far better value for money than these jokers.

When the Government was the major shareholder Sol Trujillo’s told them to butt out of running the business. This is the major shareholder right - the majority investor - >50% - Tesltra are accountable to them more than any other investor - and Sol says 'go away you are not wanted here'. What arrogant and shortsighted behaviour. Now that the Government has sold off their majority stake they are now looking to get the best bang for their buck in the communications market. This is great practice given is the taxpayers money. Sol certainly can't deliver it product or price wise and to add to his woes he pissed off the government so they aren't going to do him any favours. The reason Tesltra is missing out on Government contracts is solely on the head of Sol Trujillo -he needs to account to the "Mum and Dad" shareholders - it certainly is not the Government.
