Surgery is one thing, recovery is another.

A full investigation by the Tiger footy dept including diagnoses from eminent sports-medical specialists would have to be mandatory.

There's still 4 weeks till the draft, plenty of time for a complete diagnosis to be done.
what if there are differing Opinions?

When in doubt, ....................  ;)
true Phanto. But i must say what a tough one really if it came down to that.I mean the kid obvously has talent and if we go the safe option who should we go for as no doubt we are after a KPP.Do we then change our focus and go with the "best available" with pick 8 no matter what type and hope we can grab a decent KPP with 24.

I was asked the same question on the junior thread.

At pick 8, Ive always said that any of Kennedy, Dowler, Ryder, Clark or Hughes would be fine.
If Beau was ruled out and we missed out on the rest of these by round 8, then I'd probably go for the best available at 8.
Bower would still be my focus at 24.
If we missed out on a kpp at 8, then I'd go the Mills option at 40.
If we get our kpp at 8, and Bower at 24, then I'd go for Seal at 40.

This now becomes a very good point MadCowDisease. It may be better for us to try to pick up one of the best 3 smalls in the draft if all of the good talls are taken (Ryder, Kennedy, Hughes, Clarke) and go for a KPP with pick 24 and 40. No point missing a very talented small to take an average tall when we can pick up an average tall with pick 24.

As much as we need KPP I'm warming to a Dale Thomas or Travis Varcoe option. I'd still love to see a fit Beau Dowler in a Tiger jersey though. But really pick 8 is about getting a player who will be of significant value to the club. Now if that's a tall or a small well, I'm really starting not to care as long a they're of decent quality.

Phantom, do you realstically think that Bower (or maybe Spangher) will be around at 24 as I think that they will be gone by then (around late teens, early twenties). If they are gone who would you pick at 24 specifically.

Option A.
Probably then go straight for Mills at 24, with Taggart at 40.

Otherwise Obst, then Grima, then Birchall.
Reckon Birchall under late teens is an over-rating.

I'll ponder over this for the next month. Thanks. >:(

Sorry Phanto, but I reckon it needs to be thought about. I hope that Greg is thinking about it for the next month too!

The time has come for the RFC to target quality talls as we have none for the future especially in defence apart from Thursty.
And the fact we only have 3 picks is an absolute travesty as we will probably take one tall as opposed to maybe 3 if we had 5 or 6 picks.
This off season has been a waste unless the retainment of the duds allows us to get a priority pick in the draft in 06 hahahaha which i am hoping is Wallets grand plan by keeping them he is assuring the RFC of a mediocre performance in 06 with a tougher draw hahahahahahahahahahaha.
Top picks in the superdraft well i'd like to see that ahahahahahahaha. Come on Duds do it for the future of the RFC :hihi :hihi

Does this mean you don't rate Shultz as a backman?

Craig since the season has finished the quality of your posts has gone backwards at a rate of knots :spin

Hmmm, Beau Dowler will be wheelchair bound for two months and will not be able to start running for about six months. That means he wouldn't really be available until 2007 but doctors are expecting him to make a full recovery. I'd gladly take him with pick 8 based on waiting till 2007 but it's the full recovery part which would be the worry. Anyway, best of luck to the kid wherever he ends up (hopefully as a Tiger ;))

Dowler cant run for 6 months but is expected to recover to enable him to resume his footy so that is wonderful news for the young fella.
Dont know if a six month lay off will put off too many clubs will it, as its not like they will be paying anything over the junior wage so the end product may well offset many clubs short term loss. This time will also allow for the young man to do alot of upper body work in the gym and allow him to better withstand rigours of senior footy in 07 so there could be a little bonus in that as well!

I think that I'd rather take note of what the journalists report after the full diagnosis comes back from the specialists. (I don't know too many journalists with MDs).

Cant see it happening, particularly the clubs who will use close to their full quota of selections.
As for Richmond (using only three), I suspect they'll try to pluck Dowler with a 2nd or 3rd rounder...if he's still around.
Whatever the future holds for Dowler (and I think he will get selected somewhere), this thread is sure to rise from the dead, sometime in the future...I can hardly what for that !
