the game against the swans reminds me of our last home and away game in 1980, played at the lakeside oval. In that game, the swans were kicking goals over their heads, from the boundary line (overrun by water) off the ground, etc. Nevertheless, we went on to win the flag that year. ;D
That was my first ever game of footy live. My mum took me to Melbourne from interstate to see the tigers when I was a kid. We got rolled but was a great day in my life. I think jimmy jess had the first kick of the game - out on the full.
i can't remember the first ever game i went to but i remember 2 games from the mid 80's that must have come close. one was i think 1985. we played colingwood at waverley. it was match of the day on tv. we led by about 9 goals at 3/4 time and won by 3 goals. i think brian taylor might have played his first game against the tigers. he took a screamer of a mark but the umpire paid a push against him. ;D
the other game was around the same time. it might have even been a year earlier. we played fitzroy at princess park. i remember late in the game, fitzroy kicked out from our point. their full back played on and michael roach tackled him, we kicked the goal and won by a point.
