Am I missing something? Do we rate Gourdis so highly (the very same Gourdis we delisted less than 3 months ago) that we are prepared to forgo a potential goldmine?

So the AFL has called our bluff. Whatever has happened through mismanagement, unfairness or whatever is in the past. All we can do is concentrate is on the now & the future. We simply must take Cousins. He is potentially worth millions to Richmond:

- By way of sponsorship
- By way of media exposure
- By way of attendances
- By way of merchandise
- By way of the financial benefits of playing finals football
- By way of membership (5000 lost/gained x $140 = $700k)

Dave Gourdis could not possibly bring the above. If we thought he could we would have never delisted him previously.

Heaven help us, Ben’s football skills/nous/work ethic may even rub off on some of the other players.

Should Ben fall back into old habits, what have we really lost? No one is going to blame us for taking the chance. It is not as if we are giving up a top 10 pick the ND.

I simply hope the RFC have the “requisites” to make the right call.

i think you might find that some of these things will be discussed tonight. not sure if it will happen but stay tuned for 10am tomorrow because the CUZ maybe in yellow and black yet.

Sure - you have listed some positives. And they are great positives.

But you have to consider two things.

(1) Cousins was a champion. But at 30 years of age, he may never regain anything like his previous best. His hammies are an unknown. And whilst for me it is a lesser concern, there is always the possibility of a relapse, and the possibility he still likes to hang out with undesirables.

(2) Gourdis [or whomever we select] could become a valuable player for the Tigers. Whilst never the champ that Cousins was at his best - potentially just as good or better than Cousins will be from this point forward.

Not to mention the message it sends to all and sundry about our "youth policy", when the example of the last two premiers is youth, youth, youth.

The "requisites" to draft Cousins and 'quick fix', or the "requisites" to stand by the plan for the future, and not bow to a media induced frenzy.

Time will tell.

Who is to say that if our player we want is gone that we wont take Cuz.

We were going to use all of our picks in the other draft and didn't because the player we wanted was gone.

Either way, I hope people buy their memberships regardless because the club is always bigger than the individual.

Gourdis wont be the next big thing, very far from it. Odds are if Freo are in fact interested then he will be gone anyway. If other teams pass on him then we should do the same ::) Works for the Ben cousins haters.....
