Today, I was looking at the list of staff members on the RFC website.

http://www.richmondfc.com.au/club/about/staff-members

And, I saw a new name in what looked a very impressive role - Amanda Green, General Manager of People and Culture, which I've always thought was an extremely important role in any organisation. Benny Gale is at the top of the list. His EA is next, fine. Amanda comes in at #3, directly answerable to Benny, I assume.

So, who is Amanda Green?

Google tells me that there is an Amanda Green who is/was a producer of Law & Order. Nope, don't think so.
There's also another Amanda Green who is a New York actress, singer & songwriter. Nope, I don't think so either.
Let's put in Amanda Green Richmond!

Linked-In? Australia?
IT Expert, Canberra? Nope!
Gaming Director, TCS John Huxley, Sydney? Nope!

Bingo!

People and Culture is the new name for Human Resources in many organisations these days. In one of my previous jobs HR was colloquially known as "Human Roadblock" :hihi

But good luck to Ms Green in her role.

.........

Wow, so many people on the payroll (and an extraordinary quantity of "Managers") and our on-field achievements are still mediocre.

I suppose if we keep hiring more and more people that keep us achieving our basic purpose in the AFL industry (making up the numbers and financing the weekly payroll of the RFC) then it must be money well spent, isn't it?

Keep on keeping on Tigers.

Compare it to other clubs and there wouldn't be much difference. Football is a business these days David, whether we like it or not.

Now if you reckon we sacked all those managers do you reckon it would improve our on-field results?

I don't reckon it would make much difference one way or the other - and that's the point.

For once I actually agree David.
The AFL industry has become ludicrously overblown.
If clubs were stripped back to bare bones off field across the board, I seriously doubt the viewing public would notice one iota.

A bit like when Wallace was head of recruiting, and we were stripped bare bones off the field eh? None of us noticed JON or Bling or Polo...

HR managers or whatever you want to call them, have a place in the modern game. It's just a matter of hiring the right ones, and perpetuating the culture they try and pass on. That's what any good organisation does.

How many people would you expect to run a $50m business?

Hmmmm, Administration costs of no more than 10% of turnover ..... ~$5m per annum .... average fully loaded cost per FTE, $100k, I'd say an organisation size of around 50 people would seem to be about right, Stig.

Is all this angst towards the club still because of the Ben Cousins recruitment?

Not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but I thought David C had tried for a board spot a few years ago as the voice of the common man. Fairly unhappy about all the high powered big end corporate *smile* n wanted more footy club for the fans in the outer.

Yes he did TM but a position on the board isn't what I'd perceive as an applied for job though. I'm interested to know what kind of job he applied for. I know David has done heaps of voluntary work at the club over the years
