PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Hi all - I am a long time reader of this forum .. first-time poster.

The majority of posts have focused on our lack of skills and whilst I agree they were sub-par on Friday night, they were no less than what I expected for a Round 1 NAB Cup game.

Having watched a few other games over the weekend, I have found most teams to be rusty in the skills area. This is understandable when pressure is applied at this time of year. Why the Saints skill level was markedly diffrent to ours on Friday night was the different level of pressure each team was under (both real & inferred). Put simply the Saints were able to execute under little or pressure (even I can hit targets in those situations) whilst we were constantly "under the pump." The game was played on their terms. That was my biggest area of concern and raises a few questions:

1. Why the lack of pressure/tackling etc? Was this due to:

a. a lack of intent (this would be a serious issue given the year we are coming off)
b. a lack of fitness (i have real concerns about our conditioning staff)
c. a combination of both

2. This coralling business - is this a coaching directive or simply a bad habit. How many times did we coral which meant the opposition simply executed under no pressure. Is anyone else a fan of coralling?

Anyway .. interested to hear your thoughts.
