Good on you Checkers.checkside said:Thats unfair.Bill James said:Jay's contributions thus far have been 6 goals against Brisbane, the Hawthorn screamer and the dropped mark, handpass, goal to Pettifer. All too little.
In 2003 he came in and played 5 games in his debut season, he kicked 4 goals out of 5 games so thats alright for a first year player.
In 2004, his second year he played in 16 games, 12 of which we lost and he kicked 10 goals. Including 6 against Brisbane, the best team in the AFL at that point. Thats alright for a 19 year old skinny kid in his second season where most games he played in were lost.
In 2005 he came out and played well in the wizard cup, he brakes his ankle and is missing for a long time. By them time he gets his match fitness back, he plays 2 games in round 9 and 10. He then goes back to coburg, hurts his ankle again and comes in and plays round 21 and 22. He played well in both those games and came back on after a very heavy knock.
Now 2006, he plays the first 2 games and then gets his collarbone dislocated/broken. His first game back from injury with coburg he kicks 6 goals, second one back he kicks 4, Today he kicked another 6.
You can add a Rising Star nomination to the 2004 season.
There's some hard markers here but there's no doubt expectations are there for Schulz to start performing and showing why the club has invested so heavily in him.
Hopefully the injuries that have hindered his progress are now behind him.
His form for the Burgers is extremely encouraging and hopefully some of that transcends to the senior side.
He doesn't have to set the world alight but he does have to keep improving and make a regular contribution.
Again my biggest concern is how he'll be used at the elite level.
Will he be stopgap or will the decision makers use him where his obvious strengths lie.
I guess all will be revealed soon enough.
