Another "Pies" Blockbuster - NO WAY!

The issue with the Collingwood blockbusters is because the poorer Melbourne teams (such as Melbourne) demand them...

..... We complain that the 'pies don't travel as much as the other teams. This is simply because the other Melbourne teams want to play the 'pies at the 'G, as a home game. Collingwood is benefiting enormously because of their supporter base who are willing to turn up week in, week out. The AFL cannot ignore the supporters - unfortunately.

It's a sorry state of affairs when the supporters shape the draw. The AFL should be busting their gut to make the draw as even as possible instead of contriving it to create powerhouses.

Well said Rosy. My sentiments exactly.

I don't disagree with you Rosy - but the current AFL administration is money driven in the extreme and has no interest in fairness.

Yup, and whats ridiculous is that the TV rights has put them in a position where they don't have to be so money hungry yet they remain so.

If they must have a bye do a 4,4
I would go further and say the following week after the bye, the teams that didn't play against each other on their playing weekend to met.

Therefore all teams that meet each other after the bye round have had the same rest period between their games!

Eg Round 12

Bye Week One
Team 1 vs Team 2 - Friday Night
Team 3 vs Team 4 - Saturday (D/Tw/N)

Bye Week Two
Team 5 vs Team 6 - Friday Night
Team 7 vs Team 8 - Saturday (D/Tw/N)

Round 13
Team 1 vs Team 4 - Friday
Team 2 vs Team 3 - Saturday Day
Team 5 vs Team 8 - Saturday Night
team 6 vs Team 7 - Sunday Day

Wouldn’t it be more beneficial in the long term for the AFL to give primo draws (more Friday night games, blockbusters amongst other things) to struggling clubs so they could rise to become a decent club?

It would hurt the AFL in the short term but in the long run those clubs build up a much better supporter/sponsor base and instead of the big 4 the AFL get the big 16. Build your brand!

I cannot fathom why the AFL continually give Collingwood the upperhand at the expense of the struggling clubs. That doesnt build the Brand it just makes Collingwood a monster.

What about certain blockbusters like the Anzac game or the first game of the season be given to the two bottom sides at the time. Maybe the split round could be the two bottom sides play the free week. That would surely get a lot of sponsor money for the clubs involved also it helps their profile.

It would be more beneficial, though the AFL see dollars & only dollars.
Good post & I agree with it, its just too bad the AFL don't see things without total greed blurring their vision.
