Just wondering if any of you guys attending this gig?

Don't normally go to such an event and not even member of Tommy Hafey Club but it falls due on Dad's birthday this Friday so I am going to surprise him as his present!

Taking the digital camera so hoping to get some shots with some of the greats.
Don't really know what to expect but supposedly many former greats will be there: Likes of KB, Tommy himself, Flea Weightman, Roachy, St Francis, maybe one of the Richos (father or son) etc etc.
Anyone who can word me up on the format of the luncheon or what to expect would appreciate! :clap

Been to quite a few and normally would go but am busy this week. Drinks beforehand, nice meal, plenty of beer/wine /soft drinks, Rex hosts, lots of guests get up and Rex interviews them, some old clips, a lot of nostalgia and 'war' stories. Being in my 40's I really enjoy them. Usually plenty of opportunity for autographs, chats etc. Once I was there with my dad, got put on a table with other people, introduced ourselves. Chatting away over lunch, I thought one looked familiar but as usual hadn't remembered anyone's name. Only when he got introduced to the room did I realise I'd been chatting to Lawrie Fowler, the hero of the 73 GF.

Awesome surprise pressie for your Dad Glove. I'll look forward to reading some reports.

Out of interest how much does it cost to attend?

Rosy, I'm paying $125 each as a non Tommy Club member. I think members pay $110 (don't know how much it costs to join the club mind you) so it's not a cheap gig...but Dad deserves it! :)

Thanks glove.  I wouldn't have a clue how much coterie functions cost.  Thought it might have been a bit dearer than that.

Have a great day and :birthday to your Dad from PRE.

Does Tommy have an official function or is his name all that's used? I assumed he hosted the TH functions.

Tommy's always there, and very happy to chat, but Rex does all the MC-ing. No doubt you'll enjoy yourself DK. BTW I heard N Buckley the other day mention on AW that Duncan was one of the best taggers, if not the best, that played on him.

CC wont go.You have to dress up for this function. They wont accept pants with shoulder belts, checkered shirt and a straw hat.

Had a great day at the Luncheon yesterday! ;D
Dad was surprised, said it was a great birthday present.
(I shouted him a surprise Lunch at the Tommy Hafey Club function at Crown Palladium for his birthday)
Had pre lunch drinks in Lobby type area outside the main Palladium room 11-45AM. Had team of the century pics on display plus small merchandise outlet with the usual stuff, guernseys DVD's etc)
They swung the doors open at 12-15PM and we sat down. We were in the last row of tables Table35 but was pretty good viewing conditions with 2 big screens showing the action up the front. (If going again time would obviously book earlier in the hope of getting better seats..I booked a week before gig)
Mike Perry took the microphone first for short introduction. Gave apologies of some of those Team of Century members that could not attend..Sheeds overseas for the AFL, and Knightah "In the trenches at Essendon". And of course those that have passed on were represented by family members. Also mentioned Tony Free who was there and how he's just coming onto the board..Round of applause

Then handed microphone over to Rex Hunt.
Initially spoke of selection criteria and how hard to decide on a Team of the Century from so many good players. Was saying funny things to get crowd going. Then introduced the former players to seats on the front stage:
(As each player came up brief highlights package of that player was on screen)
Tommy Hafey
Royce Hart
Matthew Richardson
Dale Weightman
Mervyn Keane
Michael Green
Spoke to each individually as they were seated. Good stuff.

Broke for Lunch
Then 2nd batch of players went up:
Kevin Bartlett
"St" Francis Bourke
Bill "Bugsy" Barrott
Roger Dean
Geoff "Pretty Boy" Raines

Again good stuff hearing from these champs.

Then they had an auction of various items like the signed guernsey replica of what we will wear V Carlscum. Also other Team of Century Pics etc, Day on the bench I think etc, etc. Also had a raffle, so it would have been quite a good earner for the club. Some expert auctioneer came up. You know talking at a million miles an hour in that weird tone. Told Dad to keep his hands down.
(Didn't quite have the $3,500 or whatever some of that stuff cost on me at the time! :hihi)

Then Greg Champiom (from "The Couldabeen Champions") came up and did some songs bagging Colling-won't & Carlscum etc also did Richmond songs. Was excellent. At the end they had a big group photo up the front. Then the Legends broke up and were happy to sign autographs and get picture taken etc.

Only senior players there were Richo and Coggs (although didn't see Coggs) but heard him mentioned in one of the speeches and pointed at his table.
Also saw Cotchin, Rance & Gourdis (I think) of the younger brigade. Obviously giving them a feel of the fromer success of this club and the hard work it takes to win flags.

Walked out of Palladium around 3-20PM despite the fact it advertised as finishing at 2-30PM.

Great event. I recommend if you can get to one of these in the future you should. You rarely get so many Legends in the one place at the one time.

Hope report wasn't too long.

Great report, sounds like I missed a good one! I've been to about 6 or 7, first time ever KB has got up on stage. I guess he's really back.. :clap

Thanks Mittens for taking the time to tell us how much you enjoyed yourself ;D
Glad you put on such a treat for your Dad and he had a great day by the sounds of things.
(I bet you were nervous when the auction started ;D)
good stuff, mate
